Please help us show off Steem's potential in our community by supporting our quest to raise funds to reimburse the band boosters for one band member's travel from Pennsylvania to Florida for this year's Citrus Bowl Parade.

As noted in our previous post, [October 5, 2018] Oxford at Rustin Football Game - Homecoming Game - Pregame, October 5th was a special half time performance because it was the homecoming game. After a couple months of rehearsals and performances at 5 football games and a band competition, the band's show was definitely getting pretty close to its peak for the year (no pun intended).

When half-time arrived, the score was already 28-6, in Rustin's favor, so we had a pretty good idea of where the game was going. The game could always turn around, but things were looking promising, which made it easy to focus on enjoying the band's performance. As it turns out, Rustin had already notched enough points to win the game.

Of course, as a homecoming game, the first order of business at half time was to crown the homecoming king and queen. I would have liked to get photos of them, along with the entire homecoming court, but my view was obstructed, so we'll have to make do with this one that I caught earlier in the stands:

I'm assuming that the sashes the girls were wearing indicated that they were members of the homecoming court.

The remainder of this post will be a photo-essay to document the Rustin Marching Band's half time performance. Unless otherwise noted, all pictures are original photos that were taken with an LG-G4 cell phone. As always, you can right-click on the photos and open them in a new tab to get a better view.

Conclusion

There's another aspect to the band show which I haven't mentioned in earlier posts, but that the sharp-eyed observer may have noted. As you may recall from earlier posts, the visual portion of the show is intended to represent the epoch challenge of climbing Mount Everest. Part of that visual story is an on-field uniform change. The band starts the performance in their blue, gold, and white jackets, but they end the show in solid-white shirts. You can see the contrast in the "Full Band" section of this post.

Thank you for taking the time to view this post and for supporting the Rustin Marching Band!

One thing that I'm noticing is that the cell phone tends to auto-focus on the visual display at the front of the field, which makes the band members very difficult to see clearly. Starting with last night's game, I'm experimenting with a zoom lens adapter to see if I can get better photo quality from my cell phone.

If you happen to be near Southeastern PA, you can see the band perform today in the US Bands Pennsylvania State Championship at West Chester University. The competition starts at 4:45 and Rustin is scheduled to take the field at 6:52 PM.

Of local interest, the following bands also appear on the schedule:

  • Council Rock
  • Coatesville
  • Avon Grove
  • Perkiomen Valley
  • North Penn
  • Downingtown East
  • Penncrest

And, of course, since the game is hosted by West Chester University, the Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band will be performing an exhibition show at the end of the night while the judges tally their scores.

The account's purpose is to demonstrate the viability of a fund-raising model that is based on use of the Steem block chain in the community. The account's goal for 2018 is to raise enough money to send one student on the Rustin Golden Knight Marching Band's trip from Pennsylvania to Florida in December for performances in the Citrus Parade and in Disney.
