BIREUEN -Rice cultivation in some areas of Bireuen Regency that has been two or three weeks old even some begin to bear fruit, began to attack pests aphis.
Farmers are worried if not anticipated, aphis weteng attack will be widespread.
Aphis plant pests are seen in the area of Cot Buket Village, Cot Bada Tunong, Geulanggang Kulam and several other villages in Peusangan Subdistrict.
"The level of attack is not yet widespread, but on rice stalks begin to be found that pests are not anticipated will quickly expand," said M Amin, a farmer in Cot Bada Tunong Village, Peusangan, Sunday (21/01/2018).
Another farmer in Geulanggang Kulam Village, M. Yusuf, said that the pest attack was still low. But the attack will rapidly expand within a week when the plants turn yellow and immediately destroyed.
Aphis pest attack almost evenly distributed in all districts such as Peusangan, Juang Town, Jeumpa, July and several other districts.
Anticipating wereng pest attacks, the Bireuen Agriculture Service summoned all farmer mantri and pest observers to collect vast data on the attacks.
