Place the washed rice into a saucepan and add water until the water level is 2.5cm (1 inch) above the rice. Bring to the boil over a fierce heat until most of the water has evaporated. Turn the heat down as low as possible, cover the pan with a lid and allow the rice to complete cooking in the steam. Once cooked, the rice should be allowed to stand in the covered steamer for 10 minutes.
