Eating better in 5 things

in rich •  7 years ago

It's fashionable today, everyone is talking about things to stay healthy.
Bits of Advice come from all over the world: by email, by your colleagues, in magazines, through social networks and so on.
You found them very appetizing until you tried to include their solutions in your cooking, between work and bedtime.
This time, NO BREAKING! I offer you a few tips on how to feed yourself in spite of your busy schedule!

Lunch

Yes, lunch is essential.

You don't need a table full of exotic fruits in the right colors, or a brunch worthy of a big reception. Besides, you'd probably have something else to do in your morning run.
Here's what you need: a fruit and a good source of fiber (roasts, whole grain cereals, nuts, granola, etc.) with a source of protein (cheese, soy beverage, nuts and Greek yoghurt) and you're ready to go.

Not only will you have the energy to start your day, but you'll be satisfied to get to your snack.

Are you running out of time? Aren't you hungry when you get up? The solution?

Bring your lunch to the office.

A small homemade muffin (it's time to take advantage of your kids and show them how to make a homemade muffin), an apple and yoghurt will do the trick. Find more lunch ideas here and Alexandra's breakfast muffin.

Protein at every meal
Why? Why? Simply because protein supports it without going into details, (you're in a hurry, remember!), you need at least one serving of protein per meal (target the palm of your hand) or to add to a snack.

My tip for snacks: Plan to buy protein-rich foods already prepared (e. g. Greek yoghurt, hummus, walnuts, cheese, etc.).

Drinking water

Water is important for many reasons but mainly because you need to hydrate. Beware, hunger can also be a hidden thirst. Drink water and wait a while to see if you really wanted to eat.

My pro thing? Always carry a bottle of water with you. For other great and practical ideas, I advise you to read my other article: what to drink for hydration!

A colourful plate

Because it's much more appetizing than a plate containing only beige food. It's also because fruits and vegetables provide you with fibre, which will help you fill your stomach faster and like protein it help us to hold on until the next meal without eating. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals as well as in antioxidants.

Pro tip: Add vegetables to your plate first. You'll notice that you'll use it much more than if you finish with vegetables when there's no more room on your plate.

Choosing the variety

Do not deprive yourself of certain foods. The best meals consist of variety. It takes a little bit of everything to make a good meal.
On the other hand, if you're dying to eat your chocolate bar, do it.
But why succumb to temptation? Because depriving oneself often ends in excess and there is no point. The equilibrium to allow oneself small pleasures from time to time is quite healthy.
Pro tip: Prefer moderation over restriction. A little bit of everything on your plate will be a lot more rewarding than missing out on dinner and then having a big late-night craving.
