Assembly’s speaker, Anthony Lino Makana, Deputy Chair of the women parliamentary caucus, Margret Samuel, representatives from women groups and Norwegian Special Envoy for women, peace and security on Tuesday witnessed the launch.
The parliamentary women have been trained and oriented on enhancing their political skill, and participation on political affairs in South Sudan.
It’s is believed that the document will support women from all political levels; from Boma, Payam, States and National levels in order to promote transparency and accountability in all sectors.
“Today women are working as drivers, pilots, mechanics and you find that in fields where there were no women before, now they are there. So, this document is an encouragement because men are only doing 50% of resources utilization but if women are empowered, they can develop the redundant 50% resource utilization. Honorable Anthoy Lino Makana explained while addressing journalists.
Speaker Makana said it is SPLM’s policy to establish affirmative actions to cater for women in South Sudan.
He added that the government has proved support by increasing women representation from 25% to 35%.
Marita Sorheim-Rensvik, Norwegian Special Envoy for Women, Peace and Security says as part of Troika, her government is working for an inclusive process and inclusive implementation of the peace agreement in the country.
She added that what her government is doing is to reach out to the women and understand what they feel, fear, and hope and engaging them in creating an analysis of what needs to be done and ensuring their voices are heard.
“I have been so much inspired by South Sudan women since i came, I have heard so much about these strong women. I listened to them, I’ve been hearing not only that they would like to make a difference, but they even know how they want to make it,” Ms. Marita explained.
Meanwhile, Margret Samuel, deputy chair of the women caucus said the document will equip the women with leadership skills, principle of accountability and good governance.
Other representatives were Mrs. Zainab Yasin, chairperson of South Sudan Women General Association, Rose Lisok; Minister of Gender Jubek State and representatives from EVE organization for Women development.
