Effective October 25th 2017, it will be illegal in Honolulu to look at an electronic mobile device while crossing the street.
Fines are as follows:
1st Violation - $15-35
2nd Violation (within 1 year of 1st violation) - $35-75
3rd Violation (within 1 year of 1st violation) - $75-99
This only covers for example, looking at your phone. Talking on it or listening to music is ok. So feel free to read a book or newspaper while crossing the street. That is still legal...for now.
Let me know what you all think. Does the government need to make laws to protect you from yourself because its all about safety? Is this somewhat like New York banning sugary drinks larger than 16oz?
