Went down to Vantaa to exchange foreign currency today

in ridiculousness •  8 years ago  (edited)

Lahti is a city of 118,000 inhabitants along the Helsinki - St.Petersburg railway but euros cannot be exchanged for Russian rubles anywhere in Lahti except for one bank who does it only for its own customers. This is outrageous. My wife and daughter are going to Russia for a little while to meet some relatives. I'm staying home because I have to work. My wife wanted some cash just to be one the safe side should her card malfunction or be lost. It's an hour's drive from our home to the nearest Forex outlet at Jumbo, a large shopping center in the north of Vantaa near Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport. This is ridiculous. If cryptocoins were universally accepted or if there were vending machines everywhere to buy/sell them from at a reasonable price, there would be little need for cash in the first place. Well, I ran a couple of other errands along the way so the time was not completely wasted.
