George Washington, letter to James Madison, Mar. 31, 1787
“I think the people (for it is with them to judge), can, as they will have the advantage of experience on their side, decide with as much propriety on the alterations and amendments which are necessary, as ourselves. I do not think we are more inspired, have more wisdom, or possess more virtue than those who will come after us.”
It's time "We the People" represent the States, our Sovereignties, as Sovereigns declaring our rights cooperatively with limited constitutional convention ballot initiatives and put direct pressure on our Congress and Legislature. Join us and unite the States for freedom from corruption.
RIPAC advocates for limited constitutional conventions, in harmony with thirty-four other states, to overturn any supreme court decisions we deem unconstitutional as necessary but most importantly to create national level initiative and referendum. With constitutional conventions, “We the People,” can create a government more in harmony with natural law, referring all major national issues to the people ourselves.
Imagine, being able to vote NO on wars, bailouts, congressional pay raises etc. Let’s imagine living in a nation where we can be represented. National level Initiative and Referenda would allow this.
Presidential contender Mike Gravel suggested this platform when he ran for office in 2008. He did a great job articulating what direct-democracy meant and why he was the only candidate with a platform that would have truly given the people the decentralized power of the presidency directly. What he failed to tell people was that we don't need a president to create this system at all.
What we need is thirty-four States in alignment, where the voters of twenty-five coordinate what we want with nine other State's legislatures or congress. When we have this, we have virtually created a soft version of a national direct democracy. Twenty-five States voters can put issues on on the ballot and the use their collective voice to conjoin with nine other states who's legislature or congress agree on the same policy on behalf of their constituents. Thirty-four States will override the other States if their legislatures don't agree and create rights for the people stronger than the President.
We could create a system that empowers the people to change our national policy, superseding the President whenever needed. We could be empowered as our masters of national destiny, rather than passive acceptants of the President's executive orders.
A Constitutional Convention could be dangerous if applied broadly to all constitutional laws. However, if one specific policy is challenged by convention at a time, the logic to have the nation represent the people holds strong. The convention we can call for can be used to eliminate broad laws that supersede States' Bill of Rights and it can limit the authority of our government to be congruent with the non-aggression principle.
State ratifying conventions are one of the two methods established by Article V of the United States Constitution for ratifying proposed constitutional amendments and overturning supreme court decisions that interfere with states bill of rights.
Ratifying conventions have only been used on one occasion, that being for the ratification of the Constitution's 21st Amendment, to end prohibition. The wisdom of the day was that the lawmakers of states were either corrupted to or simply fearful of the temperance lobby. Congress enacted the constitutional convention at that time, with a 63 to 21 vote. All other proposed constitutional amendments have been offered to the state legislatures for ratification. Several new movements for important conventions are underway currently and they will be explored and explained in future posts.
The people of the State’s with ballot initiatives can claim these rights to call for conventions when our legislature is not. When RIPAC is successful, and it will be, we can take over the initiative States first and then apply direct pressure and enforce our people power on states where we would need congress or state legislatures to conjoin in national constitutional conventions with the other twenty-five initiative states. The time for the people to use this right is long overdue!
Today, with the ballot initiative process, the people can represent the "States" and have the same power the state legislators.
It’s time we rise up, take things one step at a time and seek to first promote the philosophy of freedom through our direct participation in working with the State’s ballot mechanisms. Once we gain momentum and we are taking over States with the sheer numbers of people supporting ballot initiatives we need, we can then talk about the possibility of proposing national limited constitutional conventions.
With the initiative and referenda (I&R) process, there is no need for constitutional conventions, but it could come in conveniently when it becomes time for the calling for National I&R rights. Let’s bring checks and balances into government and let the people decide on controversial policy. Let’s have the right to vote NO and put some important bills on our ballots to stop corruption in government.
