Ripple probably did one of the best advertisements in crypto history just now

in ripple •  7 years ago

I know most users, me included like to hate on Ripple for being the "bankster" coin and not being decentralized at all considering the top 100 addresses own somewhere around 90% of the tokens.

They seem to really like to do charity work though and this video was just now posted on the Ellen DeGeneres Show where Ashton Kutcher came with some exciting news. Take a look:

Bear in mind that the account has 25 million subscribers and Ellen has even more on her Twitter account. It is great visibility for cryptocurrency in general and Steem also being a platform that does quite some charity work themselves and helps out in developing countries through post rewards and curation projects, this is good for all cryptocurrencies that don't focus all too much on the business aspect this early on and are working hard to become more and more decentralized as that is one of the big strengths for delegated proof-of-stake currencies.

I am hoping to soon see more videos like these and for people to realize the strengths of the new generation cryptocurrencies that similar to Ripple offer instant and no cost transactions. :)

Huge Emphasis on no coins transfer transaction fee, Steem can be an absolute game changer on this field, for example bitcoin cash even through it has a bad rep, is used more frequently between people here in my country Venezuela because paying those 2-3$ bitcoin fees may be dust for some people, but for us down here it means a lot and that's why we use bitcoin to hold value but bch to do small transactions and steem is picking up a lot of heat too down here! there are thousands of Venezuelans here earning sbd and steem and then selling that to exchange houses here on steem that change your sbd/steem to our local currency.

1 sbd is worth more than a monthly wage for example, so go figure :-D

Can you pay in STEEM and SBD in Venezuela? I've seen ads for a thing called Steempays? Is it a service through which you can pay your bills using STEEM or something?

You can not pay directly in Steem/Sbd here in Venezuela, but there are many exchange houses popping up here on the platform that buy your steem/sbd for VEF and they deposit you the money directly to your bank account, its pretty cool. steempays is one of them but to my knowledge so far, there are 3!

That's cool. For Bitcoin, there are services that allow you to pay your bills using Bitcoin. The service provider does the conversion.

It would be impossible to use bitcoin to pay for services here in Venezuela, because for example, in my house, we pay 30.000 VEF for 1 month of electricity and 1$ is around 1.1 million VEF.... water is almost free too, the government subsides most services at the expense of the rest of the economy... Because if you raise services to what they should cost most people earning minimum wages would find themselves on a dilemma between buying food or paying the services.

Another fun fact that hits the pockets of people out in the world is, that a full tank of gas for your car cost less than 0.01c! A full tank cost around 500 VEF! But 1 Kilogram of Meat cost around 2 million VEF! If only you could feed yourself with oil and gasoline :^)

I totally missed the point of the initial comment, we can't pay for services with bitcoin because the fees are way higher than what we are paying for!

I totally missed the point of the initial comment, we can't pay for services with bitcoin because the fees are way higher than what we are paying for!

My point was that there could be a service that allowed you to pay your bills using STEEM and SBD because those cryptocurrencies have no direct fees.

I didn't know and can't real work my head around this. The gap is gigantic.

In a hyperinflationary situation you have to level up your math skills to be able to do math with insane numbers that you didn't use to work on your day to day basis, imagine paying 1$ for a chocolate bar and in 5 years you are paying 800000$ for the same bar, so goes everything else, its insane.... especially on the elderly, they tend to get ripped off the most because its pretty hard for them to do the proper math.

sad, it is so sad. it is lovely to hear from a local's mouth though, it would be nice to see more of your posts though, looking forward.:)

Wow, as of now I stop whining when my post makes "only" 1 SBD :) But seriously, I was aware of the inflation but this is just crazy.

I don't even follow the inflation numbers anymore, i think the numbers for last year where around 8600% and this year should be worse!

Reminds me of old times in Poland were everybody became all of a sudden a millionaire, but just on/with paper :)

crazy, it IS crazy.

Ashton talking about Ripple, that is interesting lol!)
Even though it was staged, but it's kinda cool.

No doubt ripple made the best adverts but the question is. The usability is gonna keep them behind steem in the nearest future , the fact that steem has a platform { Social media platform } steemit gives steem the upper hand in comparison. Steem was listed by Chinese as the number two and and number one in crypto currency technology.
I’m not hating on ripple at all , I just support my future which is steem

This will be great for Ripple for sure.I am interested to see what happens in future.

Decentralized system is the only way, when the power to the whole system belong to a certain few they can do and undo with no one to check them. I wish one day @ned speaks on Ellen's show. It will really go a long way to help steemit, or what do you think @acidyo

DO we think that Ripple / XRP is going to set a new baseline in terms of market? Since its the only one closest to being centralized and a safer play then most altcoins due to the banks involvment as well as displaying a solid strategy at market disruption and strength for millenials and veteran stock holders to back, who feels that Ripple will pave the way for much of the speculation to dissapate and finally some strength for Bitcoin and others to pave a way of the future in investments?

I do not consider Ripple as a good investment instrument. I do not want to make its advertisement by talking or writing about it... Because of its centralized making, i consider it as a "selfish" enterprise, which does not deserve to reach publicity.

Agree! It is probably the best advertisement cryptocurrencies in general need right now. Too many people holding coins and tokens just for exit. Not enough of them using it. Ashton just demonstrated how $4 million could be transferred to South Africa in instant and with no transaction costs. This is a huge plus.

P/S: What is the TL/DR for Ripple? Can you share your views please?

In case anyone was wondering which app it was, it's Santander's One Pay FX, (thanks reddit!). I wonder if they will have similar regulatory hurdles as everything else that's going on though, because for example there's no way they're going to put this in Venezuela. Still, this use case seems to be a large improvement over existing transfer mechanisms with less hassle.

But yeah, Ellen's audience, can you imagine how many of them don't know about Steem? It's easily the most accessible of all the cryptos as well.

Nice but hey, why wasn't Ned on Ellen DeGeneres show ? Why ripple? Why not other decentralised crytos? Are we missing out on something here? This might be good for cryptocurrency but don't you think it would be for the good of ripple and not crypto in general?

Imagine that Ned was the one there...i think I would have been more excited than I am now. But nice one though.

As far as I know I don't think Steemit has spent anything on advertisement yet, I am hoping they do once we have seamless account creations.

are agree with you on you point..but they can do much better

I will not take it as only ripple, I would say it's about the crypto in general. Well a show like this can create a lot of awareness regarding crypto especially to those who know a little about crypto. Such shows should be conducted by Ellen so that more people will get aware about crypto. I think the show must have took crypto as whole.

Wow man! You really helped me understand a little more about ripple. I have a little in my wallet and I really see potential. Thank you very much for sharing this information. Steem on!

Wow, that was really awesome! Although I don't really like ripple for being centralized, you can't deny that this is truly an amazing donation! I wouldn't know what to say in her situation... That's definitely some great advertisement for cryptocurrency in general!

this is an interesting information and I will watch the next video :)

Nice gesture and good marketing move on ripples part!

Ripple is just as safe as bitcoin or any other alt-currency but it’s much faster, and transactions are cheaper. The sheer speed and convenience it offers can change the game itself, keep an eye open for it.

Wow! On Ellen show. This will spread to a wider audience. Lemme watch it all.

I'm also waiting to read more positive comments from YouTube and this post.

Thanks for sharing @acidyo

I think many new retail investors saw a "moonshot" oppty in Ripple without understanding the differences in XRP, relative to the rest of the crypto space. I include myself in that newbie category, and recall seeing a large market cap coin for cents and thought, "well this could become huge...couldn't it?" I think the big drive in XRP recently, aside from the CB rumors, was the influx of people like me buying a little LTC, ETH, or BTC, and thinking, "I want a couple thousand coins of the next LTC, ETH, BTC" - Followed by a google search, and bam, XRP! It's hard to know what is going to happen with any given coin in this space, but in the current market, it really seems difficult to go wrong. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah by charity they are doing great

Wow, that is huge--I'm a big fan of Ellen & her reach is massive, as you say. I like your attitude about this being good for all cryptos, and crossing fingers to see the Ripple effect on good 'ole Steem :)

Encouraging to learn that they do charity work, as I know we do, too. May our good deeds help to see us through! Thanks, for sharing this, @acidyo and I hope that you continue to enjoy your summer walks in Finland _/|\_

Wow... I never thought I'd see a crypto being discussed on a show like Ellen.. That's insane and what an amazing way to plug their coin. I'm impressed to say the least.

Well, I suppose that's one way to get people talking. I dunno what the impact is going to be, but I assume it's probably going to have a positive effect on the image of cryptocurrencies as a way to exchange funds, rather than some form of speculative investment.

Great marketing idea. Good move ripple.

This might sound like a bit of a noob question, but do we have anyone (team) that is actively marketing steem and all the use cases it has?

I know @ned has been making rounds, he was just in South Korea and did an interview for Bloomberg, but I don't hear much else about active publicity. I'm hoping there are more individuals or a team in place doing all this, because the amount of use cases, the speed and cheapness of transactions, the user base and the ability to build tokens off the platform should all be pushing steem into the stratosphere, and yet we seem like we can get over $5.

Great! Hi @acidyo

Hi Acid. That is very good advertising. $4 million is nothing considering how many viewers there are. A really good pump and everyone likes good causes. Still doesn't change my mind on Ripple though.

A very good article @acidyo. It is original content. This has been so scarce, unfortunately. Thank you.
I am sorry I am too late for giving a useful up-vote, but I am not too late for following.

I have a question about Ripple that would affect you analysis, if you don't mind:

How does the Ripple system use XRP? I mean that if a bank wants to use the Ripple network to transfer money, does it have to exchange their fiat money to XRP? Or does have to pay a transaction fee only?

I am sure you can appreciate the difference. If the bank has to pay fees only, then the size of GDP is not important, and hence, the analysis is not correct.

I hope to see video like these but it focus on steem and sbd.

know most users, me included like to hate on Ripple for being the "bankster" coin and not being decentralized at all considering the top 100 addresses own somewhere around 90% of the tokens.

Been that as it may, will be kind of cool to hodl some ripple, the recent exposure its been getting, am sure we are going to see a rise alongside other crypto when the market starts to move

Blockchain has the potential to be the gold standard for charity work because all your funds can be easily tracked and you don't have as bigger risk of somebody appropriating some of that money for themselves like it has happened in the past.

Lets do a little math here, ripple owns 80 billion * 1/(4 milion *100) = O.O5 ‰ for this marketing campaign, I know sober people which have more alkohol in their blood :)

That being said, I welcome this kind of marketing and am astonished how big the crypto market became.

Ripple wasn't my option in the beginning, but it showed good returns to me on some tradings. I lost the train when it increased overnight and at some point I thought it would speed up more and bought some more and now I am holding on it to get back up there...but doesn't look too soon now...
Still, looking at this advertisement...it just made me feel better. I would like to lose my words when Ripple gets back!

I know most users, me included like to hate on Ripple for being the "bankster" coin

I believe Ripple, I believe it to be a good coin for bankers, not investors. Anyway, still a great updates, even though I completely missed the ripple boat...

Ripple had a great initiative! This is such a great idea, I hope Steemit Inc will follow this path too!!!! cheers @acidyo

If Steem advertised like this...

It's good that the bankers donate a small percentage of their wealth, I do not like ripple either, but these initiatives are applauded.

Hello,
Thanks for this story. I'll tag #rwanda here.
It's a great initiative and as I'm writing Ellen DeGeneres is now in Kigali, Rwanda meeting officials and I guess talking about her initiative. Here's the story I wrote about her visit in Rwanda and Africa today.

@acidyo, I didn't think you given upvote for the comments another wrote somethings. This was bad manner and I think next time you won't do this.
Thanks.

Thanks, I was wondering about his first sentence as it didn't make sense. Not really bad manner, I can't read all comments over the whole platform, lol.

Yeah I know hard work for read all comments over the whole platform But I have seen above user lot of time do this with speedy recovering.
