I’m sure you’ve been hearing a lot about this thing they call Ripple. Why is Mr. Smith next door, who never talks about anything but baseball, talking about Ripple? What is it? It’s almost like everyone else knows what it is besides me..? I don’t know about you, but I don’t like to be left in the dark about things. So, I did some digging into Ripple and this what I’ve come to know...
Ripple is a real-time gross settlement system (RTGS), currency exchange and remittance network. It is built upon a distributed open source Internet protocol, consensus ledger and native cryptocurrency called XRP (ripples). It was released in 2012, and Ripple claims to enable and produce a secure, instantly and nearly free global financial transactions of any size with no chargebacks. It supports tokens representing in fiat currency, cryptocurrency, commodity or any other unit of value such as frequent flier miles or mobile minutes. Ripple is based around a shared, public database or ledger, which uses a consensus process. Ripple connects banks, payment providers, digital asset exchanges and corporates via the RippleNet to provide a frictionless experience to send money globally.
Ripple helps the banks’ customers send money to their loved ones in many emerging markets like Mexico, India and Thailand, etc. Through RippleNet the banks process cross-border payments in real time with end-to-end tracking and certainty. Banks can expand payments offerings into new markets that are otherwise too difficult or too expensive to reach. Making Ripple very appealing to those sending money cross borders, because Ripple claims to be the fastest and cheapest way, saying they will save your bank $3.76 per payment, without the middle man or unexpected transaction fees. Making your transactions safe and secure through the Ripple blockchain.

In conclusion, Ripple sounds like a great way to send currency that is backed by banks and big companies like American Express, CME, Bank of Tokyo, RBC, and Axis Bank, to name a few. With over 100’s of customers and backed my MIT. I think Ripple is here to stay and something to pay attention to.
