The Ripple Effect - Would this penny cryptocurrency emerge and catch up with Bitcoin and Ethereum?

No one can deny that in the current world of cryptocurrency, Bitcoin and Ethereum dominates the news headlines. If you have just started on cryptocurrency, Bitcoin is probably the first thing that you read about, and coming in closely might be Ethereum or Ether. However, the often neglected (or ignored) currency would be Ripple or XRP.

Ripple has emerged into the crypto-rankings with impressive gains, and getting the investors excited. The Ripple price has jumped nearly 4000% in the first half of 2017. While subjected to fluctuations (being a penny stock/currency at the moment), Ripple is also listed on more than 30 exchanges. Released in 2012, Ripple purports to enable "secure, instant and nearly free global financial transactions of any size with no chargebacks.".

Ripple is likely to focus on specific use cases, with a superior technology which can process over 70,000 transactions a second (as opposed to Bitcoin's meagre 7 transactions per second). If you are having a positive outlook on cryptocurrency, and you have found Bitcoin and Ethereum too expensive to bear, perhaps there is no harm in keeping Ripple on your radar. In any case, Ripple should be trailing the Big Two as well.

You never know -- Ripple could be one of the better bets this year!

I have invested in XRP this year, at a higher level than it is now. It has been the most underwhelming investment to date i think. Would be nice if it can have another jump to lets say $1,- but dont think it is likely. I hope you are right though!

A great article on Ripple by Investopedia. =)

I'm in on XRP for the long haul. I think it has huge potential @wildy. My only concern is how much they created--I think it creates a bit of a mental barrier to a lot of potential investors.

Hi @bigpanda I'm with you on this. Due to the specific usage and great executive management behind Ripple, there is a high possibility for Ripple to get more mainstream support in the long run. Medium to long term investment certainly!

The fact that so many banks are signing agreements with them makes me feel really excited about the potential. I'm optimistic that it will become a significantly used medium for fast international transactions--which will of course make our investments rise.

I'm also in for XRP a bit, so I'm really hoping that all the good things told about Ripple will come true and XRP will take bigger stage later down the road!

Gotta love Ripple!
