Judge Schroeder and the random juror picks explained.

Another fact check about Judge Schroeder and the Rittenhouse case - having Rittenhouse randomly pick juror numbers out of a bag, although unconventional, wasn't designed to empower the defense to bias the jury. It was designed to do the opposite.

In the past Schroeder had the defense select the final jurors. That's not unusual. Just to remind the despots on my feed, the criminal justice system is supposed to favor the defense. But, Schroeder was previously the judge on a previous criminal case with a defendant who was black and there was only one remaining black juror. The defense opted against the black juror and Schroeder didn't want that to happen again; so, he decided to make the selection more random.

Now, again, this is the selection of the final twelve jurors. The first phase of juror selection involves both the defense and the prosecution. This is just picking the final twelve.

Of course the people in the room might have a better impression of what a juror is thinking or how they're likely to find; but, nobody can dig into a jurors brain. Clearly, the last thing we want is to let the prosecution stack the final jury. I don't really know how you would prefer this to be done.
