After a rough first experience river boarding, I decided I would give it another try and see if I had a better experience. This time was down the Sauk River in the Pacific Northwest where I live. This river is mostly class three rapids. The two rapid sections that are notable are JAWS and Demon Seed. Not the most delicate names. Check out the video.
I had a good run on this river except when we hit a calm pool and I was exhausted. I was relaxing on my board when all of a sudden I hit a log that was just under the water. It pinned me and my board. I grabbed the log and my feet go sucked under. My instinct was to not go under the log as I'm not sure if I could get trapped on a branch. It happened so fast, but I felt my legs were clean under the smaller log so I let go and quickly got under but lost my board to the log. My boarding partner, who is very experienced, waited for it and grabbed it when it became free. I was a bit in shock and swam to the shore. I had to walk around the dense forest to find her. I ended up finished the ride.
