WITT/IRVING (Heartland Newsfeed) -- The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced in a press release Thursday that a stretch of Illinois Route 16 from Witt to Irving will be closed as a result of upcoming road construction.

The IDOT release cites the project consisting of a bridge replacement as well as shoulder, guardrail and pavement improvements, which will require a complete closure of the highway from the westbound curve in Witt to the M&M Service building in Irving.

Motorists are expected to have delays and prepare for extra driving time for trips in the region. Motorists are advised to use, whenever feasible, to use alternate routes, but also pay close attention to changing conditions and signs within work zones, obey posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
