Given Fb egg-on-face with lack of curation/bot-applified horse hockey,
I think I can surmise that the issue for a social media blog is not tech,
so much as content, trusted content ... so if Steem wants to set itself apart from the main, and provide a foundation for disruption, then focus on content, not tech, and how to create a scene that does not play to the least common denominator... but to the common stuff that binds us all ...
