The best place to stay at Waitangi is in a bus. True story.

We said a fond farewell to the 1950’s school bus that has been our accommodation for the last three nights this morning and headed north to Kaitia.

I’ll miss the charm and quirkiness of the bus. It was a lovely old girl lovingly turned into a housebus by our host, Anika. It was just big enough for two, especially when I was sleeping outside in the hammock.

Anika and Marty were just awesome hosts. They made us feel so welcome and nothing we asked was too much trouble for them.

The tone of our stay was set the moment we opened the door to the bus and there was a greeting card and a box of chocolates waiting just inside the door.

It is a great location to explore Waitangi from. It is far enough out of town that it is quiet and very peaceful. (they don’t have and roosters) A short drive takes you to the hustle and bustle of the tourist centre at Paihia.

We had the best of both worlds.

And now we are in Kaitia, preparing to head even further north – to the very top of the country.

I’ve never been there so it will be a new adventure for me. Looking forward to it.

Great post. Thank you

That was a big school bus, our ones held about 6 - 8 kids and be full.
