This high speed robot hand is SO impressive. Well there goes a ton of jobs!

in robotics •  7 years ago  (edited)

I knew there were some really high-tech robots, and machines out there, but MY GOD! This thing is unbelievable! A lot of the stuff that it does has to be played back in high speed before you can even see what it just did. Everything it does is with absolute precision.

Capabilities

  • Throwing
  • Catching
  • Dribbling balls
  • Using tweezers to pick up grains of rice
  • Tying knots
  • Control of a flexible object with real time feed back

All of this is done with ridiculous speed\precision, and is intended to show what it is capable of. I can imagine so many different uses for this thing.

Reading about it isn't even close to seeing it in action. So here's the video.

This world gets crazier by the day. It is hard to keep up with all of the new innovations and improvements that are getting pumped out. Have you seen something more impressive? Tell me about it. I'd like to know.

Thanks for stopping by my post and taking the time to read it. If you decide to resteem let me know, and I will return the favor.

We are now in the era of high technology and actually an AI is developing that maybe in the future might harm humanity too.

Oh really? What is this AI called? Hook me up with a link.

EVERY job that does not involve innovation and critical thinking will be replaced by robots.
EVERY. ONE.

Agreed! I know it might sounds crazy right off, but I personally hope so. If we can find a way to stabilize how people get paid or how we sustain people's livelihoods than I'm down from it. Work is killing people.

you've found a way.
steem on

Hahaha! Good one! I guess I have. Just need more time investment for it to be practical for my life. I'm just a minnow right now.

you STARTED as a minnow
I started as pond scum
it took me months to become large enough to be Krill
and months more to be a minnow.
you have a GREAT advantage.
Steem ON.

I started with what was delegated. I have invested no money in this. Can't really afford to.

When you started was there not any Steem delegation?

same thing but different. I got $3. I've put nothing into it beyond that other than my time.
I've withdrawn about $5,000...and my account is worth about $20,000
just from steemin.

Sweet man! You have done quite well for yourself in under a year. I've been at it for almost four now. I'm approaching getting the slider and I can't wait. It will help me adjust a little better to the HF19.

That is awesome !!

Even jobs which require "critical thinking" will easily be replaced by AI as well. Most stocks are already traded by AI, and can do most bookkeeping better than any GROUP of people.

that's where we disagree.
AI does not exist...and I don't expect it to for a very long time.

There are AIs that develop OTHER AIs, and code in languages they created, which their programmers can't understand. AIs are starting to pass the Turing Test, and have recently beat humans and both jeopardy and GO. They certainly exist, and they're smarter than most give them credit for.

AI is a hijacked word.
It has a specific meaning.
Hollyweird is unconcerned about facts.

How would you define it?

well that's the problem
how do you define intelligence?
do IQ tests measure intelligence or something else?
if something else what do they measure?
how do you know who or what is self aware?
until we can answer those questions...how do we know if we can make it?
can you construct something without knowing what it is?

Proving something is self aware is much easier said than done. If it's truly intelligent, it could act dumber than it is in order to keep a low profile.

And to think, this thing is 8 years old!

We are a lot closer to losing almost all minimum skill jobs than people would like to admit. Hell, Budweiser just sent a semi full of beer on the longest trip ever taken by a self-driving semi. There are a lot of truckers in the world. What are they going to do for work in another 10 years?

Yeah I'm sure we have something 10x better than this by now. We have came a long way since 2009. I seen that about the autonomous driving jobs. I'm completely for it, if we can find a way to replace how people support themselves. Like I was saying to @everittdmickey. Laborious jobs are destroying countless lives.

Think of the prosthetic limbs that could be fabricated from this technology ! You would be like the million dollar man ...faster,stronger !
