What an amazing season Roger Federer is having. An 18th Grand Slam title that not even I saw coming in Australia in January then to back that up with the sunshine double of winning the 1000 Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami. Federer is playing some of best attacking, aggressive tennis I have seen for a long time.

Roger made the right decision to skip the clay court season to be in the best possible shape for the grass court season. Now it didn’t start well with a loss to Tommy Hasse in Stuttgart but it was still a close three set match and sometimes matches do simply go away from you. Federer bounced back in great style in Halle to claim an unbelievable 9th Halle title 2 weekends ago. That Halle title was Roger’s 92nd career title and very importantly his 16th Grass court title. Roger is without a doubt the undisputed king of grass with the most titles on the surface.

Before talking about Federer’s chances let’s just take on some of this nonsense about Murray. Murray and the British press are really getting quite ridiculous ahead of Wimbledon. They are both getting their excuses in early. First Murray is injured with a bad hip well if he is he shouldn’t be playing the tournament. Second the reason Murray has failed to defend most of the titles that he won last season is because his wife is pregnant, this complete utter rubbish the fact is Murray has failed as world number one he is a default number one and when he doesn’t defend another title at Wimbledon he will one step closer to losing the number one ranking. When Murray loses at Wimbledon to it will be because he is simply not good enough and not consistent enough. To be world number one you have to be consistent week in and week out and Murray has proved he is simply not up to the task and as I have said before he will not be world number one for much longer.

Now attention turns to the most important tennis tournament of the year Wimbledon. Roger is the favourite to win Wimbledon this year because simply on form he has been almost unstoppable this year he has only lost two matches this season and has picked up 4 titles already. Rogers’s record at Wimbledon is amazing 10 Wimbledon finals and 7 titles and some of those finals are some of the most amazing finals in the history of tennis.

Federer’s draw is tough but I think his form and winning momentum that he has now has given him the extra edge that I think can help him win an 8th Wimbledon title. To win Wimbledon Roger will have to probably beat Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, last year’s finalist Milos Raonic, three-time champion Novak Djokovic just to get to the final and then Murray or Nadal in the final.

I think before the Australian open fellow Federer fans would have thought how can he possibly do this but look at what he did in Australia he beat Berdych, Nishikori in 5 sets, Wawrinka in 5 sets and Nadal in the final in 5 sets. I think Federer is the form player going into Wimbledon and he has the confidence to do this. I think Federer knows with the way he is playing he can and will win an 8th Wimbledon title.

Good article! I would put Federer as the favourite because of his form right now plus his experience on grass.

I think if it got to a final between Federer and Nadal, Fed would be too strong for Nadal as Fed's backhand has not got the vulnerability it had in their 2008 final!

However if Murray is able to get through to the final he will be Federer's toughest challenge! Fed would be expected to win, yet Murray would have the crowd behind him plus he would be able to go toe to toe with Fed! If Fed didn't play at his highest level and Murray raised his game which I think he would then it could be Murray picking up a record 3rd Wimbledon title!
