Dungeons and Dragons 5e Character background rough draft - The Stormborn Clan

A group of my friends is starting a new adventure in the world of Dungeons and Dragons 5E. This is a rough draft of the character backgrounds for 3 of the characters. The Monk will be played by my 8 year old trying out his first dungeons and dragons character. Prior to this he's been my co-pilot rolling for me and on occasion rolling for my familiar's when my character has them. I will be playing the cleric. The sorcerer will be a third character that is something for the GM to use in her story if she wants to. It gives the other two drive and motivation moving forward.

While we were open to use any of the books available, I tried to keep it limited to the books I actually had. I have the players handbook for DnD Beyond. I also have the book for the Ravnica setting. For those unaware that's the setting where Dungeons and Dragons crossed planes to the Magic The Gathering planes.

The Stormclan may only be three strong but they are very mighty… at least they are in their minds. A healer, A fighter, and a Lost brother. The story of one of us is the story of three. Nivitz Stormcaller. A Dragonborn sorcerer being led by his own wanderlust spirit drawn by the magic within him. Kap Stormsunder. A Dragonborn Monk with a tempered rage within him, lashing out at foes that stand in his way of helping others out. Zekar Stormhealer. A Dragonborn cleric discovering there is more within him than anyone expects, vowing to use that for the good that he was never shown as a child. A scholar in healer the healing arts at a very young age, Zekar was born in a land not his own. Taken from the plane of Ferun. An Izzet Guild known as organization 383 found a portal from their laboratories in the city of Ravnica to the plane of Ferun. A small ridge area called Zalchester became a remote home for the Izzet guild. Zalchester sat between a Dragonborn tribe and an orc tribe. The Izzet guild worked with the orc tribe to sneak into the Dragonborn village to steal a couple of eggs for research. They brought the eggs back through to Ravnica. Under a very stormy night Zekar was the firstborn of the stolen eggs. A cleric named Rayn took kind to the small Dragonborn. Though Zekar’s strength was an advantage for him, his healing aptitude was even more so. A few years later under another very stormy night, Kap was born. It was said he burst forth from his egg as a loud thunderclap was heard. The fury of the storm raged within him. The two Dragonborn grew together. Though their scales did not match in color, it didn’t stop their brother-like bond growing together. They were both treated more like slaves and experiments. Both despised the Izzet guild. While Zekar tried to reason that all Izzet wasn’t as horrible as this lot was, Kap was less convinced. The third egg was on auction. During the sale, a Gruul tribe attacked the guild. Kidnapping the two Dragonborn and returning to their tribe. It didn’t take long for the Gruul tribe to make the Dragonborn as their own. The Dragonborn loved the passion and the family of the tribe. It somehow felt natural to both of them. Zekar continued to learn the ways of a healer, as he grew he was gifted abilities to heal others. He was counseled by the shaman of the tribe in the ways of healing arts. Kap continued to train in the ways of combat. The fury in his eyes tempered by his experiences and companionship with Zekar. Word spread to the Gruul tribe that another Dragonborn was born under a stormy night. Zekar convinced the chieftain that he wanted to go free the Dragonborn. During the attack of the Izzet labs it was found that the Izzet had captured, sold, and butchered several other Dragonborn, and orc offspring from Ferun. The third Dragonborn, Nivitz, was beaten and battered youngling. Rayn, the cleric that had taken Zekar under his wing was gravely wounded from standing up to the Izzet scientists, or “Butchers” as he called them. The cleric convinced Zekar and the chieftain that he could help them open up the portal back to Ferun, and how to shut it down from the other side. She would destroy it from this side. Ensuring that no more experiments would come to this torcher. They were able to take a couple of orc and Dragonborn infants through the portal back to Ferun. It was a rough parting between the chieftain and the Dragonborn. They had become family to each other. Once through they set about destroying the portal. They returned the orc children to their tribe, before returning to their own kin. The orc tribe welcomed the Dragonborn with open arms. Thanking them for the kindness of bringing their children home. The feud between the Dragonborn and the orcs was discovered to be a plot of deception by the Izzet group. Zekar, Kap, and Nivitz returned to the Dragonborn camp finding it completely destroyed. Asking about what happened in the small town of Zalchester, they discovered a small shop run by a couple of remaining Dragonborn. According to them and the other townsfolk the Izzet had destroyed the camp during a major raid. Something regarding politics on Ravnica. They had been given a contract to steal dragon eggs for a delicacy, and Dragonborn for slaves. The Dragonborn was almost wiped out. A few of the tribe remained in Zalchester. The remaining tribe retreated towards the north. They left the Dragonborn infants and unhatched eggs with the storekeepers. They set out to find the rest of the tribes in the north. They held onto the lessons learned in the Gruul tribes. Forming their own tribe called the Stormborn Clan. A clan born in a storm, brought together by the storms of life. Using the red and green of the Gruul Guild, they painted their armor and scales to match the tribes. Helping out where they could along the way. Nivitz, the third brother, began to discover an innate ability with magic. Calling forth the storm within him to lash out at their foes. A wanderlust spirit began to draw within him. The more he used his magic, the more it drew him. A few months later they found the Dragonborn clan far to the north. They helped the tribe what they could but still felt like outcasts. One night Nivitz was seen bathed in a storm like cloud and disappeared to the east. Zekar and Kap now search for their lost brother. You are here… The adventure is about to start.
