Various events are held around the world to commemorate World Book and Copyright Day. In the UK, an official organization called World Book Day operates a £1 book token scheme. In the United States, a street festival is held in Kensington, Maryland on the nearest Sunday. Since 2018, Amazon Publishing, a global internet bookstore, has been distributing ebooks for free on this holiday.
