Day 30; Share something you learned about playing your character.
I tend to gravitate towards a few directions - bards and sorcerers of some kind, officially speaking, and the witch and alchemist homebrew class. I also like to have my characters be 'different' in some manner - I've got elves, sure, but they're sea elves. My grimalkin gets all kinds of attention, as does my succubus.
Something I've learned about playing any of my various characters is that, I think just like myself, they tend to gravitate to a specific person and then kind of stay there until something happens that breaks that bond. My grimalkin likes to mess with new party members by making them think she's just a cat, but once the jig is up she always returns to her favorite person. My one sea elf clearly has a favorite party member to chill with when they're not adventuring, and my other has only had one session so she hasn't found a person yet but I have a fair idea of who it will be.
Another thing I've learned is that if I do a spellcaster, they're sadly predicable. I take the same spells because I know their mechanics and find them the most useful in general.
But all of my characters have unique back stories, and they all behave differently despite these differences. For example, my succubus has no horns, her wings can vanish and she can hide her tail in her clothes and often does so just because she understands her kind isn't accepted everywhere. She looks human for all intents and purposes, and flounces her good looks and noble heritage, but she doesn't lead others to believe she is human on purpose and it's more of a self-defense mechanism. My grimalkin, as I mentioned on the other hand, looks exactly like a house cat and actively leads others to believe as such because she's got a bit of mischief in her and that's how she messes with people.
I think, as with all characters, they are all facets of myself somehow. And what I've learned about playing them is that no matter what face I'm showing they're all accepted which I'm pretty sure is helping me accept those aspects of myself as well :)
I find sometimes playing the characters in my fantasy stories esp in my freewrites allow me the opportunity just let go..
We're so caught up in our reality world that we need somewhere else to explode out all the energy.

I find this a lot in my writings as well, they're sort of a release of pent up emotions. Nice to be able to have an outlet for it all :)
