For the most part, we try to organize our locations for our start/finish in a parking lot of sorts or on a road that isn't used all that often. Every now and then though, we simply don't GAF and park our asses wherever we feel like it.
Although this was months ago, we all kind of remember this date because it was logistically irresponsible for us to have chosen this site and I think some lessons were learned that day.... ok, no they weren't.

We like this site because on one side there is a hill and on the other side of said hill it really opens up to some unused jungle areas that still have some paths in them for reasons we don't understand. It might be some sort of area where illegal drugs are grown - we have no idea. But the fact remains that there is no area on the side of the road for us to park and gather so we just plop our butts down in the middle of the road.
For those of us that were from North America it kind of reminded us of playing various games in the street as kids because someone would shout out "CAR!" and we would all have to get to the side of the road. We couldn't move the ice blocks every time this happened so we kind of played traffic police for a little while and one motorist actually had to slam on his breaks to avoid killing all of us. In retrospect this was probably the worst possible place we could have chosen to serve as our meeting point since it was out of town on a very nicely paved road.... and in Thailand that means that people are going to drive as fast as they want to on it.
Most of our members were retired and if you can get inside their heads to find out what they did for a living before they retired you might be surprised to find out that most of these idiots had respectable jobs that require a certain intellectual acumen. We have stock-brokers, scientists, teachers, engineers, bankers, project managers.... you name it and there is someone in our ranks that has had that job in the past. I think we all just checked our brains out once we stopped working because these road sitting decisions are not the actions of a group of people who were successful professionals at one point in their lives.
At one point someone suggested that maybe... just maybe... having our crew of people in the road around a blind turn isn't the best idea. If you look closely in the above picture you can see that there is a lorry headed our way right as this picture was snapped. Lorry drivers in Thailand aren't very well known for being keen to share the road and this guy laid down on his really loud horn and shouted at us on his way past. I'm quite certain that since most of us are foreigners had a lot to do with his violent reaction to a minor inconvenience.
I would like to say that this incident taught us a lesson, but I can assure you that it will not do so. This is just part of being in the Hash House Harriers. Idiocy is applauded.
