The Bunny Hash

in running •  5 years ago

Every now and then, someone who probably doesn't have a sense of humor good enough to be a member of the Hash since we are definitely not a politically correct group and those people normally will opt to not continue coming on their own. To my knowledge no one has ever been kicked out of the Hash, and if it did happen it wasn't on my watch.

One of the main criticisms that the Hash House Harriers will ever face is that many of the events, such as one we have every Monday here in Chiang Mai, is the weekly men only run.

Just to keep things fair, there is also a women only run and the administration of that group is entirely left up to the women members of the community. They are known as the "Bunny Hash" and they have their own events as well.

The Bunny Hash has significantly fewer members than the men's hash and to be honest, i don't know a great deal about what goes on over there. They do runs just like the other kennel's do, but in almost all situations, men are prohibited from attending. There are exceptions made (as is done in the men's group) and normally they end up being quite humorous.

Here you can see "Leaky Faucet" and "Shagless" (sorry, don't know the other fella's name.) If you are ever invited to a Bunny Hash and are not a woman, you can expect to be picked on quite a lot. That is the nature of the game.

Although I have never personally been invited to participate, it has become evident to me that the women do a much better job than the men's group in a number of ways: Outfit coordination and food. The men's hash very rarely has any food at all and when it does it certainly isn't a meal. We can expect potato chips at best. I think the women have different priorities than we do :)

They also tend to host their runs at places that could be considered much more scenic than the average men's Hash, which tends to start at a mosquito filled shack in the middle of the jungle. This photo also showcases the ever-increasing problem with pollution that our fine city of Chiang Mai has to look forward to at the start of every year.

So there you have it. No one can claim sexism from our group because while to we do have restrictions on attendees we do in fact have one for each group. At the end of the day the only reason why either of these things exist at all is because of tradition. It's not like anything particularly naughty happens at either of them - well, not that I know about anyway.
