Some places don't have hills and perhaps those folks are a bit jealous of us over here in Chiang Mai. We have tons of them. The city itself is on a plateau of sorts but it is home to some of the highest elevations in the entire country. Which isn't really saying much when you consider that we don't really have anything that would be considered a mountain here.
But whenever we can, we go out of our way to find the steepest terrain that we possibly can.
Sine the average age of the members of our "kennels" here in Chiang Mai is somewhere around 137 we tend to take it easy and remember, you can turn around and head back to camp like a little bitch any time you feel like it. This happens frequently on the hilly trails and if you have a "nice person" that made the trail they will also make a "wimp" trail for all the people that are afraid of a little elevation.
You get extra points for not taking the "wimp" trail though and this normally means that you get an extra beer at the circle at the end.
If you are a newbie and you ever see an "R" on the trail somewhere and there isn't a veteran around to tell you the difference, this means "Rambo" and indicates that this particular direction is going to be the more difficult of the two possible options. At the top of the trail there will be small medallions of some sort that you do not get to keep and can be cashed in at the meetup at the end.
Keep in mind, if you are not injured or are under the age of say 60 or so and do NOT return with one of these medallions that you can be expected to be ridiculed relentlessly and probably be referred to in an feminine way until the day is done. Most of this abuse will probably come at the hands of the people that have actual feminine attributes such as being a female.
This is all just part of the fun and process of being a Hasher.
Getting put on the ice isn't the worst thing in the world though, and if you are like me you go out of your way to get put on the ice as frequently as possible.
Come and join in at one of the 5000+ Hash House Harrier chapters that exist around the world. One of the best resources for finding a Hash near you is called Go To the Hash and you can click on that link to see if you have an option near you. Unless you live somewhere strange (and even if you do) there is probably one not too far away. It will change your life for the better!
At the moment all operations here in Chiang Mai are suspended due to Covid, but this is not the case in other places around the world
