Last Sunday, @trang and I embarked on a 26.2 mile running race: the PHILADELPHIA MARATHON.

I sported a custom bib, announcing my intent to become a champion @steemmonsters competitor:

At the beginning of the race, I had a few goals. First, to finish. Second, to beat my father's time of 4:04:03 from the 1991 Marine Corps Marathon. And third, to break 4:00:00. I realized that by accomplishing the third goal, I could implicitly accomplish all three. So @trang and I started right behind the 4 hour pacers:

See @trang's post for more information about the race experience. Personally, I found the pain to exceptional.

At some point, we saw the 4 hour pacer catching our tail, so we upped the tempo. The last 6 miles were a fine balance between staying ahead of the wall of 4 while averting the impending catastrophic cramping. Luckily we prevailed, as my race results show:

I placed 420th out of 858 men aged 25-29 and 3,625th out of 9,517 runners overall. @trang had a miraculous victory, despite us crossing the finish line holding hands:

Turns out I crossed the start line slightly before her. With today's technology, there is no such thing as a Hillary-Norgay-style tie.

My father was in attendance to see his record shattered:

However, I can't help but attribute much of my success to the modern marvels of foam rollers, Mizuno Wave Rider 22s, Carbon Superfeet, and packets of Gu.

Supplements:

P.S. I now have great trouble walking up or down stairs.

Nice work! Now if only I could get my fat butt off the computer chair and get some exercise. Being a software developer is clearly no excuse :)

Wow, congrats man! This is a very decent achievement! I have been running pretty much all my life but I have not even tried the half-marathon yet, shame on me :D Kudos to @trang too, you two guys rock! :)

Very solid result! Congratulations!

The most I have ran so far was a 10km obstacle race. Will go for 15km next year!

Still not ready for a marathon though 😅

How long have you been preparing for this by the way?

I began training on September 16th with a 7.5 mile run. So basically two months.

2 months only? That's remarkable! Congrats again!

Yes I was on an accelerated training schedule because I didn't decide to do the marathon until @trang and I returned from our hike. Luckily I learned of an opportunity to register as a member of the Community Partnership School Team, enabling an effective registration fee of $100 (i.e. at the early bird prices two weeks before the gun).

Nice work dude! Have you checked out @exhaust? You can earn liquid steem for your trouble walking up and down stairs...

I had not heard of @exhaust until now. Took a brief look at the FAQ. I like that you can upload GPX files from any app. May give it a try, although I don't like handing out posting authority for my account.

That's perfectly understandable... it does use Steemconnect, but I totally get where you're coming from.

@mstafford is the dude who built it and has a lot of plans to get businesses involved, so I do honestly think your posting key would be in good hands.

If it makes people feel better -- I do intend to (eventually) incorporate @yabapmatt's Steem KeyChain project as another option for authentication... Probably a little ways off at this point, though.

Nice. Let me know when that integration premiers.

My main worry is that the posting key is sufficient to post the JSON operations to transfer @steemmonsters.

@yabapmatt have there been any issues with posting key hijacking to acquire monsters?

Fair enough. I'd be surprised, though, if all you needed was the posting key to hijack cards -- that certainly would be concerning. I would imagine the team will lay out some info on this sooner or later. Good thought, though.

My understanding is that card operations are custom JSON transactions. These only require the posting key to send. For example, one logs into steemmonsters.com with their posting key.

It just dawned on me... I have set my app to ask for permissions for custom_JSON operations, but I don't really need it -- at least not yet.

I'll update things tonight to no longer get scope for custom_json.

This doesn't really affect anything in terms of providing your posting-key to SteemConnect, but SC does (I believe) manage scope for posting authority.
