Today I got the closest to 5 miles that I've ever managed. I stopped because I was back where I started, not because I had to and it turns out that was just shy of 8km which is therefore just shy of 5 miles, another hundred yards or so and I'd have ticked over. It's becoming a bit of a thing with me that I'm doing greater distances, but every time I've not quite made the next kilometer up - Strava always tells me "something point nine".
Anyway the main factor on today's stretch was that I wasn't under pressure to get home to get to work. It being a bank holiday here there was also much less road traffic so I was comfortable coming back along the main road. I had only the barest idea that I was nearly at 8k because I knew that going down would be about 4 but I couldn't tell whether the way back was much shorter because it's mainly straight.
Anyway, my legs could have gone on. And yet again I'm reminded that it's a mental thing. Because I didn't have to get home and because I took a route that I wasn't sure of I let myself off the hook and just ran until I got back to the starting place. I think next time though I'll push just that bit further than I want to just to beat that "point nine" thing. I know I can do 8k comfortably (well comfortably-ish) and I'm fairly confident that I could have gone onto 10k today if I'd needed to. So that's the next goal
Congrats, excellent run. And don't occupy yourself with distances. 10K will come naturally. It is bound to happen.

Onwards and upwards! It's amazing how you can find yourself running distances you couldn't have imagined a while back. It gets to a point where you can just keep going, but then you try going faster and you can't go as far.
I'm saving myself for my half marathon next Sunday, so I won't stay too late in Leicester. Did something to my back today, after my run, so need to rest that and hope it recovers.

By the way, are you using the phone to measure the run? I would say that @actifit is a natural fit for you. Would you consider checking it out?
Sorry for posting the referral link to it. Yet, it is the easiest way to point you towards the app. https://actifit.io/signup?referrer=ervin-lemark
