I'm still running! Though I haven't written about it here so much.
I get out twice a week at the moment, which I'm still pleased with, given sometimes it's bloody freezing and pouring with rain quite a lot here. I'm exploring more routes to get away from the icy, muddy river bank too.
Yesterday I pushed beyond a mental barrier that I'd imposed. There's a path up to the University that is quite steep even though it's only about 200 yards. When I finish it, usually, I turn left and go back down the hill and into town, but yesterday instead, I turned right and continued up the slope, giving myself another 400 yards or so of upward incline before leveling out.
Nothing prepared me for the difference between running on the flat and sustained running up even the gentlest of slopes. And it's one of the reasons I've chickened out of Guildford Parkrun for a while, it's just too hilly.
But this feels like a manageable challenge, hard but not a killer.
My only regret is that I became convinced that I must have done 5k because my legs were so tired and so I stopped just 90m from the magic 5,000. Anyway, the pace was good overall and pleasing on the incline and it was nice to reacquaint myself with the campus.
