By the way, did I mention I was gonna get real up in here? This is not the blog of a stay at home parent with hours of time while the kids are at school, or some professional with no kids at home. Nope, I am 37, have hobbies and a life, habits both bad and good to break, and not one but 2 teenage kids who are active. Somewhere in there, I like to spend time with my wife whom I love, you know because she is awesome... This is real life, messy, fucked up, and absolutely amazing. I want to step up my game, I want to make that Ultra but the question comes where do I find the time to train for this? My schedule looks like this:
Mon: Drive child unit to piano, sit for 30 minutes, come home and if I am not completely fried go up to the track and work on rugby drills with the boy (slowly increasing the intensity of this for my health and his)
Tues: This is the only day I get to go to my forge and make my art. If I train on a tue I give up working metal which brings me joy. Of course I only get until 7:30 because we have to go pick up children.
Wed: I get out of child duties during season because wed is a rugby day! (yay for getting a solid 2+ hours of hard workout in likely the only thing saving my gut right now)
Thur: I am on child driving duty one child to piano, 1 to dance and back... I could go run at 9:30 pm maybe?
Fri: depending on the week child duties or free time (hey look I found a day I am wasting 50% of the time!)
Sat: Saturdays a rugby day! or a dance day! But usually not my rugby day...
Sun: this is a day I need to look at but as usual I try to do nothing on a sunday (like that ever happens)
So between parent duties and to be honest my own past times what do I give up to earn the 1.5 hours I need to properly train every day? As I look more and more I feel overwhelmed by how busy our schedule is (that is the condensed version above) and I realize this is why I have not started this journey. they say if not now when, but how? Tomorrow I will post a training schedule that at least is a step in the correct direction?!

yeah, I started early had one, then married an amazing lady who had a daughter 10 months older than my boy... We are a blended house of crazy busy! Daughter unit is a competitive dancer and at the studio 16 hours a week, the boy plays piano (both lessons and in a band) and is a rugger. Never a dull moment in this house! Thankfully they start driving in a year that might make life easier... or scarier.
