20k training W5: Fiftyrunstillmay 47, 48 & 49 (RunForSteem)

I finished my fifth week yesterday and it's time to do the summary of it!

But first I just realized that I'm just at one run away from the #Fiftyrunstillmay challenge! It's about time and it was close. But I'm glad I'll make it despite the fact that I started late.

First run: endurance run after one week of rest

As I said it in my week 4 report, my leg is hurting. It's a periostitis so I decided to skip a training and rest a bit. So after 6 days without any run, I did my endurance run and ... it still hurts. It's not as bad as the week before but it's definitely not gone. That's why I decided to shorten my training. Instead of 65' I did 55'.

Because the pain is not gone completely I continue to put ice on my leg twice a day.

Second run: most difficult training I ever did

On Friday I did a really hard training. I knew it was not going to be easy but not at this point. The fact that I took one week of rest can also be one of the reason.
Here is what I had to do:

  • 20' of warm-up
  • 6*900m in 3'17" which is a pace of 3'38"/km and 3' of rest
  • 10' of cool down

It's the first time I had to do a interval training that long at a pace like this. Usually it's more at a 4'/km pace. It was really hard and I only manage to respect the pace once and I was exhausted after that!

Third run: long interval training

Finally I did my last run of the week yesterday. It was a interval training but with a short time of rest.

  • 25' of warm-up
  • 6*4' at a 4'03"/km pace with 2' of rest
  • 10' of cool down

Four minutes is long but the pace was not as high as Friday. The weather was really good and I managed to do all the repetitions at the right pace. It was a long training in total with almost 15 km.

At the end of the week, I still feel the pain but it's way better now. In total it was an intense week with 37.9 km in 3h06.

6x900 at 3'38"/km is hard... Garmin told you to run at that pace?

Good training anyway

No, I don't use the training plan of Garmin. I have another one. But yes it's hard!
