Lunchtime run : exaggerated intervals

in running •  6 years ago  (edited)

I missed my run at this time last week as my legs were not up to it. Now I'm trying to get back into the routine. The weather has really changed since my sub-zero Sunday run. It was around 10C when I went out, so t-shirt and shorts were adequate, but I found the zip on my shorts pocket has broken. I'll try to fix that.

I went for my standard pyramid intervals, but after looking at what others have been doing I am trying to make a bigger difference between the slow and fast sections. I started off at a very gentle jog, but ended up walking between the later sprints as they were taking it out of me. You can just about see the difference here, but the Endomondo app has me running stupidly fast at times.

Intervals

The very slow parts later were when I did a few reps at the outdoor gym. I want to build more strength even if the extra muscle compromises my running. I'm never going to be a top competitor anyway. I'm interested in general fitness. I'm trying to get back into doing more high intensity workouts at home.

Here's the run log. Not too bad. I plan to increase my weekly distance to get in shape for some half marathons.

Max pace 1.53 min per KM... that's a world record 400 metre pace!

Now there's some improvement right there!

It's good to mix up the intervals... ever since I noticed @toofasteddie's crazy stats I've been doing the same.

Also good to hear someone's actually using that outside gym equipment!

You should have seen the time I logged 5000 km/h on my pushbike! These apps need a little more intelligence.

Looks like a fun little workout! Hopefully the warmer temperatures stick around and we don't get any more snow!

Hehehe! I’m happy I’m not the only one having but signals from my GPS watch 😂

This happens every time with this app, but I can put up with it.

I am still toying around with the idea of getting a treadmill. I am not quite sure where I would put it but the idea of being able to do some intervals while walking and maybe eventually jogging/running is sort of appealing to me. I know I need to do something to get in better shape. It is just a matter of finding the motivation. It doesn't help that 5 months out of the year here outdoor exercise is virtually non existent.

Can you not ski or snowshoe? I had a cross-trainer that I used for years, but I prefer running now. We can do that practically all year here.

Yeah, if I had the equipment I could cross country ski or snow shoe. I think I would rather do the snow shoeing over the skiing.

Every day is a good day when you run.
