Hot...Very warm weather today, and windy... Nevertheless, I couldn't not go for running...
Specially today that I have received my new running shoes...
Again, same brand, same model but a modern version: Mizuno Wave Rider 21. Below a comparison of the two versions, the Rider 20 and the new ones:
My old Mizuno shoes (Rider 20) have largely over passed their recommendable maximum number of Kms , which is around 900 kms IMO... All of them done in less than 8 months... which is a short time since I used to do around 2100 Kms a year...but this year I have had a lot of work...
In general, the risk of suffering an injure increases faster if your shoes overpasses the 900-1000Km... even if they look fine, the materials (rubbers, foams, textiles ) degrade with the time and also with the "impacts"...so, don't act as I did, and buy new shoes always if you pass that number of Kms... I would tell you more...Buy new shoes EVERY YEAR, even if you don't reach those Kms.
I met many people using old models, bought long time ago, suffering stupid injures just because their shoes, which apparently looked fine, were not in good conditions in terms of absorption , foot fixture and stabilization......
Running menu today
- 8 Km of progressive run
- Cool-Down jog + Stretching
As I said, the day is very warm... we reached 28 degrees in Barcelona and this temperature starts to be a handicap for us, runners.
Nonetheless, the shoes behave perfect, as expected, very stable and reactive...
I did the first km in 5'06" and I accelerate smoothly till doing the last one in 4'04"... Just for shoes testing...
Summary of the Running Workout:
- 8 km in 37'19"
- Maximum Heart Beat frequency: 174 bpm's (last 200m below 3'40'/km)
- Average Heart Beat frequency: 147 bpm's
- Time including warm-up and stretching: 47'
Keep on Running!

I was wondering today how this type of training is called and it is just that simple: progressive run! Black hole in my head! :D

Nice! I have some questions concerning shoes. Do you always buy the same shoes? Or you try different ones sometimes? And do you do your races with them? Because I have the Wave Rider 20 and I don't find them really responsive and light to do fast training or a race.

I have a lot of shoes... lighter and heavier, faster and slower...usually I wear Mizuno, sayonara, hitogami and ekiden for fast racing bud, rider’s are the most balanced...they are a good compromise between protection and speed, believe me...
My best marathon time is 2’54 with rider’s, my best 10K having crossed the 40 years I got as well with riders...35’
Lighter shoes can give you a small advantage but...you risk to get injured easily
Anyway, the best is to try different models and do your own research.
I only use riders since I get recovered from a long injure caused for lighter shoes use.

Thank you for the info :)
That's what I do right now. Since I only start to run more (not even one year ago I was running only once a week), I try new type of shoes to see which ones are the best for me.
And I didn't know your time on a marathon. It's quite impressive and it clearly shows that lighter shoes are not needed to run fast!

As I said, lighter shoes can give you some advantage but the risk of injure is also flying over you then...
I'm not telling you don't use them but do it in very particular moments...

Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.
