I bunked off work yesterday and ran up into the hills around Wellington to train for the upcoming WUU2k ultra-marathon.
And I wanted to test out making some video to see what it might look like.
This is my first time doing this (and it shows) so don’t expect too much.
There is a bit of wind noise (sorry) but I have a cunning plan to fix that.

Awesomeness! I have done a few very technical half marathons ...the terrain doesn't help with speed but that's just the nature of it. About that "wind" noise...just made it seem like you were running faster. :)
Those downhill sections will be nice race day but after using the gluts for so long up the incline, your quads will probably scream at you. I'm sure you already know that. The steeper the prolonged incline the worse it'll be.
Anyway, i honestly would've never guessed that was your first video. You did a great job. Looks like a beautiful course! What did you use to make the video? I've often thought it would be neat to video some of my runs. One of those cameras affixed to your hat like the cyclists use would be optimal probably

The wind noise is a bit annoying though, and to be fair it was a very calm day here. It is unlikely to be so calm on race day. So I do need to sort that out.
I think this downhill section will be second downhill of the run (maybe the third-ish) and it starts about half way through the course. So that gives you some idea of the terrain I'll be covering.
It's going to be epic!
To capture this video I used my phone - a Zenphone 3 from Asus. It takes 4k video and does a decent job of audio too by the looks of it.
An to hold the phone I used my new Osomo Mobile gimbal. That's the bit that smooths out all the bumps from running. I've just started playing with it really, and this was the first run I've taken it on.
So it seemed to go ok. I've still got a few bits and pieces to work out in it, as it started doing weird stuff towards the end of the run.
but it may be that the phone had become a bit unbalanced due to the running.

Aw, thank you for the follow. I'd like to say most of us runners are kinda part of a tribe, so it's fun to find another that "gets it".
That osomo mobile gimbal looks really cool, doesn't appear to be cumbersome either? That's the main thing, obv on long distance running or running period can't be cumbersome.
Well, on race day i have a feeling you'll have more to contend with than just "wind' noise - i.e. other runners, etc.
You did well with making a relatively short video that recapped 3 hrs of time though.
Gosh, ive ran so many cool places over the years (15 yrs now)...the mountains in different states, trails, waterfalls, state parks, canyon beds, etc. .. Some places would be hard for me to get back to bevause of moving etc. I need to take more pictures at the very least. My phone does good pics. Unsure of video.
Perhaps when i upgrade my phone ill get the mobile gimbal. You've inspired me. When is the event?

@trevor.george. I've never even gone remotely that distance. 20k or so is it but I really appreciate your going for distance like that and the different world that you're entering while doing so. Cheers!

Thanks for that. If you can do 20k, you can do 42k. you just need to work at at. I couldn't do 5ks without wanting to call for an ambulance at the start of this year.
But now I'm focusing on my next 60km race in 15 days. If you work at it you will be surprised what you can do.

Tomorrow I hoe to go and explore the trail some more, maybe 20-30kms. And then I'll start the taper. A good week off should see me right.... maybe with a massage or two ;-)
