Very Excited about my Upcoming Race!

As some of my followers are aware, I have been saying I wanted a half marathon to do. Luckily for me, I found the perfect one. Right here in my town no less!

Starts bright and early which means I should finish around 9am. My target pace is to run <2hrs 10min. I think with some more specific training I could actually do under 2 hours but considering I haven't ran a half marathon since mid 2015, I wanted to make sure I'm being realistic about my abilities.

Look, they even wanted to make sure they thanked me! How nice. Especially since the race was $100 plus a $9.50 "processing fee." Over the years those processing fees have just got more and more expensive.

Its all good though. Looks like I'll get some decent swag to include a nice dry fit long sleeve shirt & the medals look really nice. =) Not to mention the support along the course such as aid stations look to be plentiful.

I was regularly running 7-8 milers back as recent as February. So tomorrow, I plan to do 8-9 miles but at a faster clip. Interestingly enough, the course is over some areas I regularly run so that's good. Familiar stomping grounds.

Alright. I'll check in again tomorrow and let you guys know how the long run went. Thanks for all the support!!

Yay! Glad you found one close by! Sounds like a very reasonable time goal, so I'm sure with the excitement of the day and crowd support it will be a great race for you!

Thanks!! I feel it is definitely doable =)

That seems an expensive entry fee, but maybe it costs a lot to run the event. I'm working up to my first half and looking forward to it

Yeah but generally they stagger these fees for example if i had signed up months ago probably would've been at least 25% cheaper.

Also you have to consider you're paying for the city to keep an entire 13 mile radius from cars, etc etc.

So it is what it is. Did you chose a half yet & when is it?

PS. pay for it as early as possible to avoid the fee. :)

My half is mid-May and I already booked. It wasn't very expensive. They don't close all the roads for it. Some is away from roads anyway. Not sure I've paid more than £20 for a race so far

That's good. This run is part of a whole running festival which i think plays a part. Well yours isn't too far after mine. Cool! Looking forward to hearing more =)

Wow, Sola promotion, good idea, hehehe...

Lol i got that idea from @jumowa =)

Wow! Very expensive but at least close to your home 😉

Yeah would've been cheaper if i signed up two months ago but oh well. Lol

Very nice of them to give bit of a heads up in time for people to train up for it. I wish you luck and great fun.

I’ve never been in one of these I always assumed they would be either free or rather cheap outside of ones being run for donation events.

Well a lot of the 5ks or fun runs are relatively inexpensive. But when you consider the logistics required by the local police for instance to keep runners from getting run over, etc it is not such a bad fee to pay. Would've been cheaper if i signed up sooner but 0h well. Thanks for the well wishes! Have a good day

Interesting you should just post my title as your comment. Hmmm

Good luck on your race!

Thanks!! =)

That looks like a great course. I considered it back in my road running days, but it never worked with my schedule. Good luck with your training.

Thanks yeah it does look like a good course for a speedy finish =)
(Hopefully)

loved running and also such races too.
thanks for sharing the information with us dear.
have a great day ahead and best of luck for the race.

Thanks, hope you have a great day too

your most welcome dear.

It's always nice to have a good race on your home turf. There's one in my home town every year (marathon, half, and 5k) this time of year and I've done one event or another the past 8 years in a row. I did the half this year.

Have a good long run tomorrow! Sundays are usually my long run days too but this weekend I will not be running as I ran my race last weekend. Now I need to find another one to register for soon...

Oh cool sounds like you basically have a running festival too! I was very happy to learn this race was so close by

Good luck on the training, looks like a little time left to get in proper form.

Yeah luckily I have been in maintenance running forever so that helps =)

Good luck! I wish you success on May, 6th :)
