NATO’s non-response to a lethal attack on one of its members should show everyone what the support of technocratic nations (including the US) is worth.

Not a dime more than the paper it’s written on.

Technocratic commitment to inaction has condemned the GOP (and LP) to takeover by fascists, the US to takeover by the GOP, the Dems to not push back against GOP fascism, Japan to three decades of stagnation (and counting), the entire world to a post-’08 “new normal” of reduced growth and declining prosperity, and Ukraine to fend for itself against the brutal invasion of a deranged dictator with imperial ambitions.

If you have bought their excuses, and their claims about “red lines,” and so forth, it’s time to wake up.

These people will not act unless they’re forced to act, and nothing could force them to act except a literal fight for their own lives, the way the technocrats in Ukraine were forced to fight. Their job is to campaign for their job, and nothing else. If China invades Taiwan tomorrow, any serious observer must know the world would sit out.

Putin is far more likely to resort to nuclear weapons if he is backed into a corner by Ukraine and forced to a humiliating withdrawal than he is if he can pretend that he would have won without Western intervention.

The best way to guarantee no nuclear escalation is to give Putin an excuse to lose.

What would that be?

NATO intervention.

Or, the unilateral intervention of any single major power.

The US, Germany, the UK.

Any one of them could end the war in an hour, while bringing everybody off the precipice of nuclear terror.

This probably should have happened in February.
