Students listen to a story and as a class discuss and synthesise the responses to the story using the following headings: purpose, plot, structure (such as engaging openings), language features (including descriptive language/imagery), characterisation, narrative point of view. This is an opportunity to review students’ prior knowledge and build further skills by providing guided practice to identify and describe the typical features of a good story.
