President Paul Kagame at a recent campaign rally
KIGALI, Rwanda
6.9 million voters are expected to vote on Friday in Rwanda's general elections. Two candidates, Frank Habineza and Philipe Mpayimani, will be challenging Kagame for the approval of the 6.9 million voters. It is widely expected that Paul Kagame will win continuing his 14-year reign. His critics have pointed to the fact that his administration has increasingly become tyrannical and that the country's institutions are not independent. His supporters have highlighted his successes which include: achieving universal health care, Highest women representation in parliament in the world and Rwanda having one of the best business environment in Africa. Hate him or love him one cannot deny that Kagame has been instrumental in the country's resurgence after the genocide in 1994 that destabilized the country. We here at the briefing room will observe the country's election tomorrow and issue a full brief.
