AMD Radeon RX 470 video cards about to hit the market

AMD's new Radeon RX 470 series of video cards is just around the corner and should be available on the market in the next few days, so crypto currency miners are already eager to know what the new GPUs from AMD will be able to provide in terms of hashrate. The slightly faster Radeon RX 480 that is already available has shown good potential for mining Ethereum, so expectations for the slightly stripped down Radeon RX 470 are high. People want to see a cheaper video card that does a bit less in terms of hashrate for mining when compared to RX 480, but will the RX 470 be able to deliver on these expectations?

Mining Hashrate for Ethereum

Crypto Mining Blog managed to get some results from an 8GB version of the AMD Radeon RX 470 for mining Ethereum. According to them the 8GB model is with 8 GHz (2000 MHz) video memory, so it is capable of providing the same hashrate as the RX 480 that uses the same video memory. We are apparently looking at 24.5 to 24.6 MH/s for mining Ethereum with these cards.

The 4GB versions of the AMD Radeon RX 470 however do seem to be using a slower 6.6 GHz (1650 MHz) memory chips and as a result their hashrate is expected to be lower as compared to the 8GB models that use faster video memory. So instead of expecting to see about 24.5 megahashes as hashrate we are more likely going to see about 20-21 MH/s in terms of hashrate from the AMD Radeon RX 470 video cards with 4GB video memory.

I got one ASUS STRIX RX 470-O4G-GAMING yesterday and got 20.5 Mh/s at default setings which confirmed the results above. My card is with slower 6600 Mhz memory.

Newegg has some rx 470s for 189, scooped up a few of them to build a couple mining rigs. Will post results once the rigs are up and running.
