Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending has been cleared up by the movie's writers, who have addressed confusion left lingering in some fans' minds.
The latest Marvel adventure saw Spider-Man open up the multiverse while trying to get the world to forget his real identity – though after returning a number of Spidey villains to their timelines, he decides to resolve things by erasing himself from everyone's memories.
However, questions have lingered over how much of Peter Parker is really gone, such as his records, photos of him and so forth.
It turns out writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers thought about the twist at length, the latter recalling to Variety: "We were like, do we do a Back to the Future kind of thing where you see him fading out of photos? Does he still have a driver's license or a passport? It just led to more questions."
In the end, they decided to "do it in the most satisfying way and just focus on the emotion of it".
"And then if people have questions about some of those details that didn't get answered here, we'll answer them hopefully in another movie somewhere down the line," he added.
McKenna noted: "Obviously, some sort of magical redaction has occurred. At the end of all this, we didn't want a lot of people trying to do magical math in their head."
He revealed that they looked to 1978 fantasy-comedy Heaven Can Wait to get their brains around how to tackle it, saying: "People had these experiences, but they start forgetting the person they knew, but they were still affected by the events that happened."

Elaborating on the importance of the scene where Parker sees MJ, who is now unaware of who he is, McKenna explained that it is "him making the last piece of the sacrifice".
Adopting the superhero's inner monologue, he added: "I could tell them everything. I can try to get my friends back. But I'd be going right back to the place of endangering my loved ones by bringing them into my life. And I can't have that."
Spider-Man: Far From Home is available now on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download. Spider-Man: No Way Home is out now in UK and US cinemas.
