Abraham lived in Haran, and there God gave him a message and blessed him, and God made a pact with Abraham, when he and his wife were old, to make his offspring a great nation. And to confirm this promise Abraham was subjected to harsh tests. For his obedience and fidelity to God's commands, Abraham is considered an example to follow for all Christians.
The Bible recounts one of the most difficult moments in the life of this prophet, the Bible tells us the story of how God asked his servant Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a Holocaust. A holocaust in ancient times consisted in the sacrifice of an animal, usually a domestic animal, which was burned to ashes.
Although God's request seems extremely cruel, in reality God with this story proved the fear of God in Abraham. It is important to note that in the Old Testament the relationship with God is not based on faith, but on the fear of the Lord. In the Bible, God manifests himself through wonders and supernatural events, dreams, visions, prophets, and men must respond to the Lord faithfully.
Abraham was a man who did not hesitate and acted with determination, he went with his son to the region of Moria, and when they arrived at the place appointed by God to worship him, God provided a ram to perform the sacrifice, and said to Abraham: "´Do not lay a hand on the boy,´ he said. ´Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son´" Genesis 22:12.
With this test God ratified his pact:
"I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me" Genesis 22:17-18.
