But if we ask again "What is Safety?
It is certain that the various answers that we can, some answer: Safety is the safety of the pack. Safety is wearing a helmet pack. Safety wear shoes that have iron, or safety that wear seat belts, etc.
All the answers are indeed not wrong because the mentioned is part of safety.

By definition What is Safety?
Safety is a 'BUSINESS' how we do work activities in a safe way, so as not until an accident occurred.
So salvation is not only us, in doing activities in the world of work depends on our own efforts. How we try to work in a good and right way and by following the SOP (Standard Operation Procedure) that exists.

What is the risk if we do work not in accordance with SOP?
The answer is: if there is an ACCIDENT or the people on the project are more familiar with the term 'ACCIDENT'.
The definition of an accident is an undesirable, accidental event, occurs suddenly and can be detrimental to some parties whether employees, families, companies and the surrounding environment.

Can the accident be eliminated?
The answer is: can not. Why can not be eliminated? Because the accident was an event that HAPPENED. What we can do is minimize / reduce the risk of work-related accidents and this is done before an accident occurs.

Accidental Impact.
Lots of impacts / losses caused by accidents, among others:

For victims who have work accidents (feel pain, temporary disability or permanent disability, and also psychological disorders).

For the family, the impact is felt (sadly, the economy is disturbed, time consumed, eg the time usually used to accompany the children learn, but used to the hospital etc.).

For colleagues who work (Jobs are usually done by 6 people, now must be done by 5 people because 1 person is sick, etc.).

For the Company to be borne (hospital costs, disturbed progress, uninterrupted productivity etc). And others.

The impact caused by the occurrence of work accidents is quite large and if associated with the cost it will appear a considerable cost value. If categorized related to the costs incurred then it can be divided into 2 parts, namely:

Direct Cost
costs that are immediately visible / arise due to an accident.

In Direct Cost
unexpected costs arising from a series of accidents.

Example: Material / Equipment Fall.

direct cost

repair costs for damages.

Inderect Cost

involve / bring in investigation team, stop work (company keep paying employees), schedule and progress disturbed, waiting time repair by other parties, waiting for re-ordering equipment / material (if material is damaged total), waiting for re-delivery of goods and others.
From that example we can conclude that INDIRECT COST is much larger than Direct Cost because many unexpected costs will arise. As mentioned in the theory presented by Ice Berg that is better known as "The Theory of the Ice Mountain".
