Our planet is plagued by environmental problems that deplete natural resources and strain livelihoods, many of which are exacerbated by poor industrial practices. If left unchecked, environmental problems negatively impact businesses both directly, as in supply chain disruptions, and indirectly, as in health hazards that lead to loss of man-hours and efficiency.
Also, when it comes to environmental protection, most people focus on manufacturing enterprises which own a large number of equipment and factories, and the relationship between Internet enterprises covering almost all businesses in an office building and environmental protection seems to be somewhat distant. In fact, in the face of the basic issue of the environment, which is related to the fate of mankind, Internet enterprises are also duty-bound. As a connector in the era of “Internet plus”, Tencent’s exploration and gratifying results in the field of environmental protection have provided the possibility for more Internet enterprises to play their respective strengths and contribute to environmental protection.
With the improvement of living standards, more and more people are accustomed to taking air, water, food, soil and other resources as a matter of course, while Tencent will take more account of the dynamic changes and sustainable development of these ecological environment. Tencent owns a lot of high-tech and seeks to use these technologies to provide more effective solutions to these global problems.
To name a few concrete examples, in April 2017, Tencent Internet + Cooperation Department and China Environmental Monitoring Station jointly launched the "air quality" inquiry service, covering 338 cities and 1436 monitoring points in the country, to help the public obtain the most authoritative urban environmental air quality data officially released at the first time.At the same time, relying on Tencent's technological advantages in cloud computing and big data, the two sides will also carry out in-depth cooperation in the construction of environmental monitoring cloud platform and the promotion of environmental supervision information construction, so that "Internet +" can become an important force to support the construction of ecological environment big data and China's environmental protection cause.
Second, Ma Huateng proposes "Sponge City" concept based on the concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, at the two sessions of the National People's Congress in 2017. Ma Huateng, deputy to the National People's Congress and Chairman and CEO of Tencent, submitted a proposal entitled "Suggestions on comprehensively promoting the construction of sponge cities in China". The proposal pointed out that the scientific and technological content of the construction process of sponge cities in China needs to be strengthened, and the participation of social forces needs to be tapped. Tencent will jointly build a "sponge city" technical support and public platform. Through big data and Internet of Things technology, it will comprehensively monitor meteorological data, rainwater concentration, soil moisture and so on, and collate and analyze them in the cloud in real time to help government departments make better decisions.
What’s more, Tencent also builds 5A Green Data Center —namely Qingpu Data Center. With the rapid development of cloud computing, big data and mobile interconnection, data centers, as the basic carrier and the rigid guarantee behind cloud services, continuously provide running power for all kinds of businesses. However, statistics show that about 1.5% of the world's electricity is consumed by data centers. A data center with 100000 servers consumes as much electricity as a medium-sized city. Tencent has long been concerned about this issue, and is committed to exploring a green, high-energy, efficient data center base. Tencent Qingpu Data Center is located in Shanghai Qingpu Economic and Technological Development Zone, with a construction area of 57000 square meters, is one of the most advanced cloud computing and cloud storage infrastructure service bases in the Asia-Pacific region, in order to achieve energy saving and emission reduction, Qingpu Data Center has adopted many "black technology".
-Cooling, heating and power cogeneration system. The power supply data center takes the natural gas from the west to the east as fuel and the gas-fired generator as operation. The waste heat from the power generation rear end is collected by recycling equipment and then converted into cold by a lithium bromide refrigerator to supply the data center for use. The primary energy utilization ratio is greatly improved through cascade utilization of energy.
-TMDC modularization. Adopting the modularization design concept, the coupling of the infrastructure to the computer room environment is minimized. Subsystems such as power supply and distribution, refrigeration, cabinet, airflow containment and moving loop monitoring are integrated to improve the overall operation efficiency of the data center and realize rapid deployment, elastic expansion and green energy saving.
-High water temperature data center. The inlet water temperature is 22 degrees Celsius, the return water temperature is 23 degrees Celsius, the supply air temperature is 24 degrees Celsius, refrigeration adopts the mode of closing the return air in the cabinet, which has a very high energy conversion rate. Compared with the traditional refrigeration mode of full open or isolation of cold and hot channels, it greatly reduces the load of the air-conditioning system and saves energy consumption.
-Photovoltaic power generation. Qingpu data center each building photovoltaic power generation area of 3000 square meters, located on the top of the data center, all the electricity generated by photovoltaic will be collected into the power network of the data center.
