Episode 8: Crossing the Gulf Stream to Paradise

in sailing •  6 years ago

We finally leave the United States and winter weather behind as we sail from Florida to the Bahamas, crossing the Gulf Stream en route.

We continue to try our hands at fishing, go for our FIRST SWIM since living aboard to check out the beautiful blue Bahamian waters and we find a couple of scenic anchorages.

Pretty awesome. Glad you guys made it to the Bahamas and can practice a bit more. Fingers crossed now that there are no more mechanical issues and it is going to be smooth sailing from now on.
One question and that is how long have you been sailing?

Cheers thank you for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply! We rarely have good internet between uploading videos but I try and make a point to come back and respond!

  1. Things have been much smoother sailing after our six month mark as liveaboards. We got as far East as we are going to go and the rest is hopefully utilising the tradewinds instead of battling against them! Taking the strain off our boat and causing a lot less things to break!

  2. We only had a couple of weeks of sailing experience when we started back in early November 2018! So it has been a big learn as you go curve!!

Hope that answers your questions - thanks again for commenting!

Hey, @hownottosail.

Well, you've been enduring a lot, with some flashes of fun and beauty along the way, and now you're in the Bahamas and seem to be enjoying things a lot more. I guess that's kind of the way any journey works. Not all of it is fun, but there are good points along the way for those who stick with it.

Seems like the main thing is to keep as much of a positive attitude as possible, fix what can be fixed, replace if it can't, and keep a wary eye on the ocean and weather with a smile firmly fixed on your face.

Or something like that. :)

Thanks so much for watching! Attitude has been everything for us and the odd time it felt hard to keep up, someone would give us a pep talk or make a nice comment on social media like this! So cheers, for contributing to us keeping our chins up - things have been much smoother now we are in the tradewinds and hopefully continues to be that way!
