In case you have been avoiding the media, Salman Rushdie was attacked during a talk and had his neck stabbed. In addition to having life threatening injuries, he's also likely going to lose sight in his left eye and have problems with his liver, which was also punctured.
Although the heinous injuries are life threatening, he is currently in ICU and it looks as though he will survive this ordeal, albeit with permanent disability.
So what was the motive for attacking Salman Rushdie?
A number of years ago, Salman Rushdie wrote a controversial book called The Satanic Verses which was considered blasphemous against Islam and Ayatollah Khomeini proceeded to issue a call for him to be killed in retaliation.
The attack represents a pure act of terror. Seeded right from the top of the Iranian regime and directed by Ayatollah Khomeini himself (though he died of natural causes just months after issuing the fatwa). It is an attack on American soil and it's purpose is to scare people from all over the world away from free speech and into compliance.
There is nothing more important than taking this act of terrorism seriously. A nation founded on freedom, liberty should do it's utmost to protect it, particularly on it's own lands. The Iranian regime has no jurisdiction to impose it's ideals and laws on people outside of it's own territory let alone the United States, much less by means of terrorism.
At this point, the best kind of support you can give to this endeavour is to signal support for free speech by purchasing The Satanic Verses and helping to push it to the bestseller list.
