The Angel Falls (Kerepakupai Vená, in Pemón, meaning "jump from the deepest place") n 1 is the highest waterfall in the world, with a height of 979 m (807 m of uninterrupted fall), generated from the Auyantepuy. It is located in the Canaima National Park, in the state of Bolívar, Venezuela. A protected natural area, established as a National Park on June 12, 1962 and declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1994, extends over an area of ​​more than 30,000 km² (similar to the territorial extension of Belgium), until the border with Brazil and the territory of Essequibo (currently in claim). The name that is known internationally, Salto Angel, was suggested by a Venezuelan in honor of the American aviator Jimmie Angel, who in 1937 collaborated more formally on the existence and exact location of the fall by flying over it in his plane and later perching on its peak, giving it worldwide repercussion. In the 21st century, she was one of the 28 finalists in the election of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
The Angel Falls is one of the major tourist attractions in Venezuela, but even today, a trip to the falls is not a simple matter, because the area is isolated by the thick jungle, and the tepuis make navigation dangerous. aerial The region can be reached by a small plane flight from Caracas or Ciudad Bolívar, to reach a camp in Canaima. Other tourists prefer to reach the waterfalls by more natural means, crossing the jungle by waterways until you reach the base of the waterfall.

The Angel Falls is also erroneously known as Churún-Merú (when the right thing is Kerepakupai Vená, river that gives rise to the jump and branch of the Churún River), name that corresponds in reality to another waterfall that is in the same Tepuy, about 400 m high.

In Santa Elena de Uairén, Ciudad Guayana and Ciudad Bolívar there are tour operators who make excursions by land, water and air (by light plane or helicopter), to observe the Auyantepuy and its numerous waterfalls. The excursions by land and water are made from the Canaima camp and last about 13 hours.
