OH YES! Snook season is here and its time to go Bridge Hopping.

Well guys Snook aka Line Sider season opened on August 1st and its time to do some serious bridge hopping. Being one of my favorite saltwater fish to target, the Snook is one of Florida's most popular fish to go after once the season opens. Every time around this year we get hurricane type weather down here and the states canal systems are flowing with millions of gallons of water pushing it out to the ocean. When this happens, every spillway in florida becomes an ideal location for monster snook to ambush bait fish that gets caught up in the fast currents. 

The night the season opened I whipped up a few custom jigs to field test and these are 2 designs that Im working with right now...

Snooks are suckers for Chartreuse. Jigs are great for Spillways and Deep water snook.

 Red flash will also get the snook to bite.

These jigs that I made are considered old school to the stuff they make now. Like Spooltek Lures,  which I think are awesome. This is were technology meets fishing. These lures have a feature that allows you to hook up to monster snook without them breaking your line and shaking the bait of of there mouth with they jump out of the water during the fight. This lures comes with what they call, concealed leader technology(80 pound stainless steel leader and 6/0 hook)

Another good artificial bait that I absolutely love to used the the old reliable DOA Shrimp. Simple but yet effective. I like to slow retrieve this lure and try my best to think like a little scared shrimp while its in the water. i have caught some of my first couple snook ever on this lure so we have history.

Few tips for you guys before you go out.... Live shrimp, live pilchards, live mullet, and live sardines can all work depending on where you are fishing. As with most bait fishing it's usually best to catch some bait near the area you will be fishing. Snook have a hard time turning down a lively bait fished near their ambush points like as docks and mangroves.
