Marriage is a contract between a man, a woman and the community to look after each other and raise the next generation. To instill security and happiness in the raising of children so that they have the best chance of success as contributing members of society.
It is only since the socialists destroyed the family and the community with welfare and family courts that we rely on the government to fix all our problems instead of the family and community.
Unfortunately for society welfare relies on forcing money from some to pay others and the day is fast approaching when there will be no more money and this lunacy will come crashing down.
Gays have civil unions - They are recognized as having loving relationships already. This is a nefarious attempt by the socialists to tinker with the constitution (where marriage is dealt with in the highest law of the land).
As far as the survival of our culture and society how does Same Sex Married (SSM) contribute?
2 women can't have a baby just as 2 men can't have a baby. Only a man and a woman together can have a baby. Therefore:
A SSM couple must rely on a family that has separated or never formed in order to have their family. They can only exist after the denial or destruction of another family for whatever reason.
How is that sustainable? Pulling families apart in order to build different ones. Or they don't have kids and therefore don't contribute to succession of the culture, and don't create future tax payers to pay for their welfare when they retire or become sick.
Every study ever done on the subject and every culture practiced marriage between man and woman as the most efficient and healthiest way to raise the next generation. Homosexuality was historically shunned because it a hedonistic submission to the earthly pleasures of the flesh in the here and now with no thought or a disregard of the future of the community. A culture can only exist as long as it has a future. A future can not be maintained with SSM.
It is only is this alternate reality where welfare seems unlimited that this is even a thing.
People are so bogged down on the emotional side of this and just do not think about the long term practical cost of this deeply selfish and immoral act masquerading as the opposite thing.
