This whole thing depends on how you define marriage. Is it
A) some archaic outdated religious ceremony that doesn't really mean anything?
B) Is it a fundamental building block to our society. A self contained business unit that looks after itself and raises the next generation without costing society anything?
If it is A why would gay people want it?
If it is B why wouldn't everyone want to ensure the survival of a critical component of our culture?

Your comment is full of assumptions that don't make much sense to me (and most people out there, that's why support for gay marriage is so wide-spread).
First of all, there are many other options for the definitions and you have by no means chosen the most popular ones.
Marriage doesn't have to be religious. Traditionally, it's a celebration of love above all. And many gay people (like anyone else really) want to celebrate their love. Even if it's just tradition and a ceremony, denying it to a section of the population is textbook discrimination.
The best answer to this question is none of your business actually. Different people have different motivations to get married and in none of the cases is it your business. The more important question is why would you want to forbid some people from doing it.
Even if we accept that definition, gay marriage actually fits it just as well as straight marriage. Additionally, the fact that there would be some gay couples out there married does not preclude straight couples to live their lives in exactly the same way they did before gay marriage was allowed.
To put it simply, because gay marriage doesn't endanger your or your progeny's survival in any significant way. So again, other people's genitalia when they are getting married has nothing to do with you, so you have no business trying to restrict anything in that regard or melding in any way.
