Sanctuary City Fact vs Fiction
I lived in a sanctuary city for almost 4 decades. My friend, Sarah Rodriguez was born to American citizens there. She worked hard all her life. Her son was a very hard worker and his supervisors liked him and his work. Then they got the word to fire all the Americans and only hire illegals. Then because there are so many illegals who don’t speak English, Sarah’s 2 daughters were fired from their bank because they weren’t fluent enough in Spanish for the illegals. Sarah would take her mother to the hospital and have to wait for hours to get her in because it was flooded with illegals with no insurance. Some hospitals totally closed down their maternity wards because the costs of “free maternity” care for the flood of illegals babies was busting the budget of the hospital and it was either shut down the maternity wards or shut down the hospital. So now a great many American citizen mothers are lacking for maternity care.
With wages suppressed by the hiring of illegals over American citizens, Sarah worked a second job. She became ill over time and because of the stressed health care system, she received poor medical advice and often had medications that made her conditions worse. Sarah died broke in her 50’s. She was a wonderful person and only one of thousands of American citizens of all colors suffering from the influx of illegals who burden the schools, health care and welfare system. The selling point for sanctuary cities is to help keep families together. What about Sarah’s family?
The police department refused to keep records of crimes committed by illegals so the corrupt politicians can hide behind their bankrupt policies, while American citizens suffer the consequences. A few blocks from me a Salvadoran gang, gang raped and stomped to death 2 teenage girls going home from school and this was in a nice neighborhood. Tough veteran cops were retching from what they saw. A number of cops have been killed by illegals who had long rap sheets and multiple deportations.
Another friend, J Hernandez, a Viet Nam veteran formed an anti-illegal immigration group. A number of the group were naturalized citizens who followed the law. One time someone came and made some anti-Semitic remarks and they were thrown out of the group. The group had all races represented.
We have a great many American citizens willing to work who need jobs. We have hundreds of thousands of veterans who need jobs. Veterans also come in all colors, with a great number of skill sets and know the value of safety, determination and discipline.
I am told that illegals will do the work that no Americans will do. I am a disabled veteran of an elite unit that was the number one red alert unit in the U.S when I served. I have rapelled off mountains, out of helicopters, parachuted out of jets, planes and helicopters, walked through miles of swamps, suffered hypothermia and heat exhaustion. It is offensive to me to say that they will do what Americans won’t do. I have never seen any illegals do what I and a great many other vets have done. I feel sorry for the thousands of illegals coming here to perform legitimate work and make an honest living, but we lack the economy to care for our own and that of other countries too. I don’t see the so called sympathizers of illegals creating charity foundations for their health care, education, etc., just campaigning for the gov’t to confiscate the wages of hard working American citizens and hand it over in “entitlements” while veterans are denied benefits and 22 vets a day commit suicide because they have lost all hope in coping with the ravages of war that they’ve faced.
Sanctuary cities harbor criminals who have broken federal law by entering this country illegally.Aiding and abetting such felons is also a federal law. Any politician who calls for or aids in sanctuary city status is in violation of federal law and violating their oath to protect and defend the constitution. I and other vets put life and limb in harm’s way to defend the constitution. Why are politicians not held to the same standard?
