Director Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt, Sanju, starring Ranbir Kapoor, has crossed Rs 500 crore in worldwide earnings, according to trade reports. The film is on the cusp of crossing the Rs 300 crore mark (nett) in India, a little after two weeks of release.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Saturday that the film is ‘continuing its dream run’. The film made Rs 202 crore in India in the first week and another Rs 92 crore in its second week, for a total of Rs 295 crore. The film has also made close to $7 million in the US.

The film is fourth on the list of films with the biggest opening week collections. Baahubali 2 is at the first position with Rs 246 crore while Salman Khan’s Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai are at the second position and third positions with Rs 208 crore and Rs 206 crore collections, respectively.

After making Rs 34.75 crore on its opening day, Sanju became the highest grosser of 2018 as well as of Ranbir’s and Rajkumar Hirani’s careers. The film went on to cross the Rs 100-crore-mark in the first weekend itself, again making it to the highest weekend grosser of 2018 and the actor and director’s respective careers.

The film has received mixed reviews from critics - it holds a 50% rating on review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes - and criticism has been directed at Hirani’s whitewashing of some of the more scandalous aspects of Dutt’s life.

Ranbir Kapoor's latest outing 'Sanju' has proved to be the biggest hit of 2018. It released three weeks ago on June 29 and it is already ready to enter the Rs 300-Cr club in the Indian markets. It had crossed Rs 200 crore mark within a week of its release.

The Rajkumar Hirani directorial recently crossed the coveted Rs 500-crore mark worldwide. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to give the full break up.

The film might have been slammed by the critics for whitewashing Dutt's image, but it's Sanjat Dutt's controversial life story that's still attracting the audience to the theatres. Ranbir, who has delivered the biggest hit of his career with Sanju, is being widely praised for his earnest portrayal of Bollywood's bad boy.

Apart from Ranbir, 'Sanju' also stars Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal and Manisha Koirala.

A new song from Rajkumar Hirani’s latest movie Sanju, Mujhe Chand Par Le Chalo, was released online on Saturday. The song is picturised on Ranbir Kapoor and Karishman Tanna and is about a moment of intimacy between Sanjay Dutt and his best friend Kamli’s girlfriend, Pinky.

And of course, Pinky is wearing pink in the scene—a pink negligee to be exact. She walks out of her boudoir, like Margot Robbie’s character from the Wolf of Wall Street, and proceeds to seduce the corruptible Sanju.

But their flirting is cut short when Sanju realises that his best friend, Kamli, is passed out in the next room—also wearing pink by the way. After realising that Kamli will not be able to make the most of this situation for himself, Sanju decides to have a go at Pinky.

The song ends with implied sex between the two, as Sanju turns a figurine of Lord Ganesha around.
