WATER CONTAMINATION.

Of natural resources, water is the most abundant: it occupies more than 70% of the surface of the earth. Of this total, 97% is salt water not suitable for human consumption or for agricultural use. The remaining 3% is fresh water that, although it can be consumed by man, must undergo purification processes Water is the main component of cellular protoplasm, representing two thirds of the total weight of man and up to nine tenths of that of vegetables.

It is considered that water pollution exists when its physical, chemical and biological characteristics are altered, due to the discharge of solid or liquid waste, which degrade the resource of its natural state and directly affect human health and the resources of aquatic life

PHOSPHATE: derived from the manufacture of fertilizers and detergents. In addition to turning the waters into unusable sources for consumption, they end up with the forms of life present in them.

OIL: important source of global energy, its extraction produces irreversible effects on the waters of seas, oceans and lakes. The constant spills and accidents of refining, produce real ecological catastrophes.

MERCURY. Used in power plants, as well as in the mining industry. It constitutes an active poison that affects the nervous system of those who consume it diluted in the waters.

Other highly harmful substances are: sulfur dioxide, which severely affects the respiratory system; the fluoride, which interrupts the oxidation of human hemoglobin; arsenic, which causes cardiac disorders and death; and carbon monoxide, which severely damages the stratosphere.

They use, to cool their condensers, the waters that come from natural sources, such as rivers and seas. After its cooling process, the waters are returned to their source, but at higher temperatures and therefore cause disturbances in aquatic ecosystems. It is important to ensure that the temperature of these waters is modified before being discharged, so that the thermal difference (with respect to the source of origin) is not higher than 3 ° C and thus cause the least possible impact on living organisms, both animals and vegetables.

The biggest and most serious effect that occurs with pollution is to disable huge volumes of water for different uses, that is, for domestic, industrial, agricultural and recreational consumption, among others.
